| It's a dragon's eye view of thickly knotted treetops, gnarled things that have an unnatural look and that conceal all beneath the canopy. It speaks to Taeliyth's distance and the disturbance in her calm. « Cadejoth, » she addresses him, « Dee, » not Dahlia, « asked me to tell you about the quarantine of Fort Weyr, for K'del. She thinks someone else will explain, formally. » Does he understand? This is unofficial. (To Cadejoth from Taeliyth) Quarantine. If Cadejoth weren't instantly aware of Taeliyth's disquiet, that word would be enough to do it; the rattle to his chains, now, is an uncomfortable one, filled with trepidation. « I understand, » he promises. « He wants to know that she's well. That... he wants to know if there is more he should know. » The chains don't probe, but they hover: aware, alert, alarmed. (To Taeliyth from Cadejoth) « She is well; they all are, for now, » Taeliyth's tone remains sober; this is no moment for sass and bull. « The measures are, as yet, a precaution. Riders will lend aid to Healer Hall if it is needed, but the Weyr will not accept any - visitor or refugee - for now. Word has come that Southern Boll's Lady and her family are ill, that the Hold is functioning on minimal bodies. » There's a pause that includes a steeling breath. « Cadejoth, they are all sick. Nearly. » That it is beyond troubling goes without saying, but not without being felt. (To Cadejoth from Taeliyth) The discomfort Cadejoth shares, now, must be in part from his rider-- K'del, surely, is the one who worries about holders left unassisted. Because this news? It has struck him, deeply. « All sick, » he repeats, with no levity at all, nothing but concern. « K'del's never... » Seen such a thing. How long has it been, since there was last a plague on Pern? « Is there anything we can do? » (To Taeliyth from Cadejoth) It is with some trepidation that Taeliyth responds. « That is for your Weyr to decide. Limiting the spread of illness seems wise to Dee, but no one knows yet if this is limited to Southern Boll. » There is a hardness to her, as if all those trees in her wood have petrified in the course of moments. « The holders are not without help, Dee wishes me to say, there will be volunteers, but the Weyr will not invite illness that may ravage us as it is ravaging Boll. Dragonriders are only human, too, and if a large number become sick all at once, it... would not be good. » She reasons that much, even without Thread to worry about and fight. « Dee will let you know what she finds out. Hattie is ensuring she sees everything, in case the illness does come here and Hattie should become ill. » It's an idea that doesn't sit well with Taeliyth in the least. (To Cadejoth from Taeliyth) To Taeliyth, Cadejoth certainly does not discount the need to protect dragons; he's already suggesting as much, the fine web of his Weyr that he holds about him gathered close. Protect them. But... « He's glad to hear they will not be without help, » is firm. « We will make decisions as best we can. It may not be too late to prevent it spreading. » And, after a moment, « If we hear anything, we'll report it on. K'del says that sharing information may prevent the sharing of illness. » And that's important. « You'll all be safe. You and Elaruth's. You'll take care. » Not even a question. To Cadejoth, Taeliyth's appreciation is a real thing. « I believe K'del is right. We will be safe. » There's some cynicism there in her touch, but they will do what they can to be safe. « Be well. You and all of yours. » She wishes before breaking the contact. « Always, » agrees Cadejoth, who breaks off into his own direction. He has things to do. (To Taeliyth from Cadejoth) |
