| TimelineData + | The Holders' Conclave met on day 1\\\, month 9\\\, turn 39. Among the items on the agenda was the proposed confirmation of Tavish as the new Lord Boll. With very few dissenting votes\\\, he was confirmed\\\, making his wife\\\, now Lady Mabry\\\, a happy woman. Tavish is known to have one sixteen turn old son from his first marriage and a daughter\\\, Maradesh\\\, by Mabry. It remains to be seen if his son\\\, Lezio\\\, will be named heir. + |
| TimelineData + | Lord Devaki of High Reaches Hold has shut down his Hold's docks\\\, although he ''is''\\\, reportedly\\\, allowing local ships an opportunity to resupply under strict quarantine. It seems his children have been sent into isolation\\\, though he himself remains visible: business as usual\\\, nothing wrong here. For the moment\\\, no cases have been reported in the northern hold. Perhaps they'll end up being lucky. + |
| TimelineData + | Mid-morning of day 16\\\, month 4 saw a slight commotion at Fort Weyr's dragon infirmary. At his dragon's request and courtesy of Taeliyth's instruction\\\, dragonrider R'oan was brought from his cot to his waiting brown just outside the cavern\\\, before Etrevth took them both Between. The dragons keened in mourning of the first rider plague loss Fort Weyr has seen\\\, though healers are quick to say that it was doubtful that R'oan would have lived long enough to make any difference Betweening now or dying later. + |
| TimelineData + | Nabol's Steward dies as the plague continues. + |
| TimelineData + | News out of Healer Hall is tentative but good. It seems anyone who has caught the sickness and survived will not get infected again. At least not from the plague\\\, though many who get it have a compromised immune system for a while. They still state exhibiting caution when traveling\\\, however\\\, as this is just preliminary data. The current mortality rate from those infected sits at 15%. + |
| TimelineData + | Preparations at Fort Weyr had been underway for days when their fears are realized on day 8\\\, month 4. Not only riders\\\, but also the family of some of those affected have begun to turn up in Fort Weyr's infirmary to tick off the list of symptoms noted by the healers as being ''the'' illness. Some who arrive are sicker than others from the start\\\, perhaps most notably Junior Weyrwoman Dahlia who was brought in by brownrider R'oan after fainting in the hot springs\\\, delirious with her high fever and showing the rash. That the illness has reached the Weyr at all doesn't bode well for Fort\\\, but that their Acting Senior is grief-stricken and their only Junior is plagued by a disease that has already claimed victims? That's truly terrible news. + |
| TimelineData + | Reports of deaths have started to come out of the Fort region. But there are also reports of some people recovering and many people immune. What\'s causing the illness is still unknown\, though many are quick to point out nothing of this nature happened prior to \'\'that\'\\' body showing up. However\, with good news \(and bad news\)\, there\'s even more bad news as reports of illness are being reported in the Telgar region and along the Fort-Igen border. Telgar Weyr has been quick to request preemptive aid from Healer Hall\, but Healer Hall has its own struggles as the illness reaches Fort\'s doors more definitively. + |
| TimelineData + | Rumors are abounding from Ruatha. Prospective heirs (plural) have begun to arrive. By day 23\\\, there are three\\\, by day 26 that number has doubled. Evidently\\\, Giarnon's succession isn't as clear as some might wish\\\, and as a result those who stand a chance of becoming the confirmed Holder have begun to flock to the Hold to 'assist' with reparations in the area. While Ruatha isn't in a position to turn away help\\\, some wonder if so many cooks in the kitchen will be more trouble than aid to the Hold. Only time will tell. + |
| TimelineData + | Rumors come from Fort Hold: an heir apparent has arrived. Cyrek\\\, annoyingly good looking in his early twenties with the same blonde hair and light eyes as Astivan and charming to boot\\\, presented himself to the steward managing the Hold's affairs. Wagging tongues and swooning women does not a solid claim make\\\, however\\\, and there are those that say his is far from sure. + |
| TimelineData + | Spring has sprung in the Nabol area\\\, the heir has turned twelve and now... word is that young Eriskel has been making visits outside of the Hold\\\, accompanied by one or both of his parents\\\, and very occasionally his grandmother. Reactions seem to be generally positive; Eriskel is considered a thoughtful boy\\\, if over-enthusiastic at times\\\, and seems to take a genuine interest in the work going on around him. + |
| TimelineData + | The Blooded Holders of Fort Hold aren't the first to die within the Hold of the disease. Holding out til the last\\\, Vaion is the last of his family to succumb to the illness. A pair of assistant stewards have become the go-to for the interim. Fewer new cases are occurring\\\, so some might hope the end is in sight. + |
| TimelineData + | The Bollian family starts to die\\\, a few on the 3rd\\\, another on the 4th\\\, the Lady succumbs shortly after her husband in the evening on the 5th. While the drums sound to let Pern know\\\, the Hold itself has no emotional energy to grieve as the Hold's stalwart Steward steps in. + |
| TimelineData + | Less than a seven after the body was discovered, the couple who discovered the body was admitted into the infirmary with high fevers and chills, while complaining of a cough. A bright rash has started to appear across their chests. Among the ten healers who viewed and helped perform an autopsy on the body, seven have started to have a slight cough with a high flush on their cheeks. Lady Jenilynn has ordered a preemptive quarantine of the affected people to the Hold\'s infirmary and the body burned at sea. + |
| TimelineData + | The Holders' Conclave met on day 1\\\, month 9\\\, turn 39. Among the items on the agenda was the proposed confirmation of Baliol as the new Lord Ruatha. Baliol's wasn't the only name presented\\\, but after some debate and votes\\\, Baliol was confirmed as Lord Ruatha. Given that he's in his mid-twenties\\\, charismatic and single\\\, many parents of eligible Blooded daughters are thrilled at the prospect of alliance. + |
| TimelineData + | The Holders' Conclave met on day 1\\\, month 9\\\, turn 39. Among the items on the agenda was the matter of Fort Hold's succession. Though some names were presented\\\, two factions emerged in debate: those who wished to vote and have the matter settled and those who wanted more information on the likely candidates. In the end\\\, no vote was taken to confirm a new Lord or Lady at this time. In the meantime\\\, the Hold's affairs continue to be managed by one of the surviving stewards. + |
| TimelineData + | The first cases of plague reach High Reaches Weyr. The Weyrleaders announce a temporary wing of volunteers willing to go out into the coverage area and provide aid wherever required; they will be compensated accordingly. Additionally\\\, High Reaches dragonriders are no longer permitted to leave the coverage area\\\, a ruling that will be enforced by the Weyr's queens. + |
| TimelineData + | The infirmaries are finally emptying in Fort Weyr! Those last taken ill are on the mend enough to be sent home. Healers stress to continue preventative measures and\\\, particularly\\\, for those volunteering outside the Weyr to be mindful of any symptoms lest a second wave of the illness occur\\\, but it seems like Fort can start ordering the chaos that this emergency has caused. + |
| TimelineData + | The news is bad from Ruatha. The drums sound before dawn on day 26. Lord Giarnon was the last of the family to succumb to the illness and the last to die. Ruatha is left in the care of their steward\\\, a man who only recently succeeded the last upon his all too recent death (due to plague). Overall\\\, there are fewer deaths in Ruatha than there were in Southern Boll and more of the ill are reported to be recovering. + |
| TimelineData + | The news is worse from Fort Hold. There are those who were willing to foster a tentative hope that the Hold's quarantine measures were working\\\, but those hopes are dashed on day 24\\\, month 4 when drums tell the illness has come to Fort Hold. Mid-morning on day 26\\\, month 4\\\, there's a curt message: the Holding family is ill. + |
| TimelineData + | Though cases of illness had come to the outlying Holds and passed through Ruatha region\\\, the quarantine measures put in effect at the main Hold seemed to be relatively successful until day 17\\\, month 4 when the drums sound to inform Pern that Lord Giarnon and his family along with a significant number within the Hold have begun to show signs of the illness. Ruatha Hold is not safe after all. + |
| TimelineData + | Though recovery efforts continue at Southern Boll Hold under the combined guidance of heir apparent\\\, Tavish\\\, and the Hold's steward\\\, there's concern growing about fall harvests as a number of crops have failed. Rumor has it that Tavish has written to the Weyrleader and Weyrwoman of Fort to request assistance in expediting the clearing the fields so a late planting can occur in hopes of replacing some of what was lost. + |
| TimelineData + | Though the first Hold to be hit with the plague\\\, things have been slow going for finding a replacement for Lady Jenilynn. Finally\\\, on day 20\\\, month 7\\\, the most likely heir apparent\\\, a man named Tavish\\\, arrives at the Hold. He's quick to get to work with the Hold's steward\\\, with some mention of family to follow. The most common rumor to be had is that the reason it took so long for him to arrive at the Hold is that he was among the survivors of the plague and his convalescence delayed his relocation. + |
| TimelineData + | Word from Tillek is that the Hold has started turning away all ships-- indeed\\\, that one arrived that had been in the Southern Boll region at one point\\\, and was refused even the opportunity to pick up more supplies. Word\\\, too\\\, is that there was a girl on the deck\\\, screaming for her father. Lady Edeline\\\, however\\\, has made it very clear: Tillek is closed to trade. Similar reports are now beginning to come out of other Holds in the High Reaches region. Although there have been no officially reported cases of plague\\\, Crom and Nabol in particular are guarding their borders as best they can... which is\\\, not admittedly\\\, perfectly. + |
| TimelineData + | Finally\\\, nearly half way through month six\\\, and with no new cases in the regions immediately surrounding it\\\, Crom cautiously reopens its borders. Losses have been minimal; rumour has it the plague was aggressively contained\\\, often in a way that showed no empathy. It was arguably a success\\\, though\\\, and the region now stands in a much better position than many around them. One death does stand out as notable\\\, however: Lord Aughan's daughter\\\, Haille\\\, who ''someone'' managed to contract the illness despite all measures to protect her\\\, and died partway through month five. Lady Ienavi is said to have claimed that her daughter was deliberately infected\\\, and though many have dismissed this as simply grief\\\, there has been some discussion about the possibility. ''Could'' someone have deliberately tried to kill off the Cromese ruling family? In any case\\\, more than one person has commented that it least it was the ''daughter'' and not the son. + |
| TimelineData + | A scattering of cases of plague are reported near the border between Nabol and Ruatha by day 9\\\, with an admission that they may not have been reported ''immediately''. The illness appears to be spreading northwards\\\, if far more slowly than it ''could''. In response\\\, although there have yet to be any cases at Nabol Hold proper\\\, Lady Tevrane has moved her family into seclusion\\\, leaving her steward to manage day-to-day business. Some are calling it a smart move\\\, but others seem less sure. Why should the Blood have that option when no one else does? + |
