  With its entrance located between the kitchen and the living cavern, this 
  tiny bubble cavern is cozy, always kept warm and is filled with           
  comfortable chairs and a small round table. At the far end, there's a     
  hearth, outlined in ruddy, aging bricks, where a pot of stew simmers in   
  the evening hours. Generally quiet, the nighthearth is the haunt of       
  insomniacs and those seeking quiet from the bustle of daily Weyr life.

|log=Dusk has settled in, and with drills over, Edyis finally has a chance to deal with the Weyr's newest visitors from the Weaver Hall. Her sister's trip had been delayed after the events of the Crom gather, but not like to be put off forever. Gerta is nestled in at one of the chairs by the hearth, a large sack at the side of the chair and her latest creation being knitted in hand, while Greta sits at one of the tables laughing with Edyis, the blonde grinning widely. "It's almost enough to make a person wish for a posting at Reaches, but I'm glad he liked them, really it's nice to get someone who doesn't mind dealing with apprentices. I've yet to figure out my Journeyman's project either."

The invitation, such as it is, is answered promptly; or, at least, as promptly as drills allow. Z'kiel dons one of the more ridiculous knitted creations that the sisters made - a multi-colored and multi-pommed monstrosity that he takes off only once he's inside. The jacket is undone, the lingering flakes of snow melting quickly once the relative warmth of the nighthearth hits. The scarves around his neck are loosened, his gloves are stowed in his belt, and the bronzerider lingers just to one side of the entrance while he susses out the true nature of this situation with narrowed eyes.

So what if dinner's currently being served in the living cavern? So what if her Glacier wingmates are there at their table, sharing bullshit and sustenance? Alida's being... Alida. And so, she's bypassed the din of the communal chow hall in favor of rustling herself some quieter grub from the night hearth. As the silent bluerider steps quietly into the area, Pyrite offers a soft trill at the sight of Edyis, the tiny gold then chirpeling at Zak when whirling blue eyes take in the man's 'super-pommed' hat. Play? "No..." is the only word to escape Alida's lips - not sounding cross or tired, just firm - and it keeps the flit from moving off to 'examine' the bronzerider's hat more closely. As she, too divests herself of snow-touched outer-wear, clear green eyes cannot help but take in those two girls she knows nothing of...and observe how Ed interacts with them. Hmm.

Gerta, she knows that hat, ''knows'' it. She should, she knitted it. Her current project set aside, as all too gleefully she's up on her feet, almost ready to snatch the hat off his head. "How did it work? Is it warmer than the ones without the poms? Do you like the colors? She said you were from Igen so I figured you'd like the colors..." Chin tilting to peer up at the bronzerider, and flush for a moment after having realized she spouted off the entirety in under thirty seconds. Oops.

Greta hides her face behind her mug, trying about as hard as Edyis is not to burst out into giggle fits. Flicker is perched atop the bag near Edyis and Greta. Chirping when her dam appears and scurrying up the weavers shoulder where she gets a stroke. "You'll have to forgive our younger sister, she's - lets call it enthusiastic."

Edyis? She's doing her best not to giggle, and her pokerface fails considerably, but when Alida shows up too there's a wide grin for the bluerider. "Alida? I don't think you've met my younger sisters, This is Greta," Indicating the one next to her at the table, "And that is Gerta." Pointing at the one now ogling Z'kiel and blushing profusely. "They are both stationed at the weaver hall but visiting for a few days."

Brazen peeks his wee head out of some scarf folds and chirrups at the sound of another firelizard; he makes his way around to Z'kiel's other shoulder to properly trill at Pyrite. The bronzerider clicks his tongue sharply, once, and that seems enough to stay the little bronze from getting up to mischief - for now. A sidelong look is angled to Alida, his expression notably as grim as ever, even when Gerta is nattering at him at the equivalent of a dragonlength a second. The pommed hat is taken and turned around in one of his hands, with a grunt and a thoughtful sucking of his teeth. He is, if nothing else, wholly unaffected by her flustering and flushing. "About the same warmth," he determines once there's room enough for him to speak. "Not much different. The thicker yarn is warmer. But. He likes these bits," the hat is jiggled, the poms bounce, and Brazen's eyes fix on it immediately. "The colors are good. Pleasure to meet you. Both of you," and Greta's pulled in with a nod, so to speak. That glance travels onward to Edyis with a lower, perhaps more readily interpreted (or not) ''hnnnh.''

Gerta, grins, "Thicker yarn, and Poms for the little one." Those pale grey eyes watching the bronze fire lizard with a smile as she checks off the list. "I'm not sure I got his size right..." She notes thoughtfully. "You are a ''lot'' more attractive than she mentioned." tilts her head studying him. "You'd look really good in blue, or maybe scarlet. OH! I brought the hat. The big one. I don't know if it will fit your dragon, had to use a lot of scrap yarn, but I think, well well try it in a minute."
Greta manages not to spray her tea at ''more attractive.'' Something deeply apologetic in her expression, though she looks to Ed as though to say ''see''! She, however, doesn't miss the bluerider's clamping of the mouth, and grins widely. "Nice to meet you at last Alida. and Z'kiel."
Edyis watches transfixed by the - shall we call it mid-air wreck? "Gerta, why don't you let him sit down a minute before you start -" It takes some effort here not to say throwing yourself at him, instead the brownrider opts for, "Overwhelming the poor man." She is grinning though at that sound, and offers an apologetic shrug in return, as though to say, 'I warned you.'

This can't possibly end badly. Brazen hops his way down Z'kiel's arm and chatters at Pyrite as she wings closer. Z'kiel's eyes narrow as he watches the gold, noting for her benefit, "No jerky." He shakes the hat again demonstratively, but it just makes Brazen bounce forward another little bit. So. Close. So sharding close. If he stretches out a tiny paw... but no. Not yet. Z'kiel's not oblivious to Alida's sudden interest in the hearth over there, but he doesn't call attention to it - especially not when he's being accosted from all sides. Sort of. There's another ''hnnnh'' for Gerta's assessment and a roll of shoulders that threatens to disrupt the bronze's attack. 

"Bigger just means he has a bed," is the reply, with a flicked look to the 'lizard. The 'attractiveness' remark, not surprisingly, elicits nothing more than another grunt. Instead: "Reds are good. Yellows. Oranges." A beat. "I'm sure it'll fit. Ahtzudaeth's smart. He'll figure out a way." And, at Edyis's suggestion, he motions for Gerta to sit; he'll pull up a chair shortly. "Nothing new," is angled Edyis's way. "They're not so different than some of the dancers at Igen." No apology needed, in other word.

As she recovers from her small 'fit,' Alida mumbles a barely audible, "Mhm..." back at Gerta as the bluerider works on getting herself some fresh food...the stuff in the large pot cooked up just before tonight's main dinner. It's chili, apparently, and the blonde is ladeling herself a huge bowl of it, her ears keen on the conversation that her back is currently turned towards. Ah, yes: cornbread and cheese! Sniffling just a hint at the burdensome bit of humor left-over inside her, the woman finally returns her attention to the gathering of people, Alida taking a seat closer to the hearth while the others natter on. *She* just wants to eat, chill...and observe, apparently. And Pyrite? Buzzes back to her son, dipping a wing so she can circle lower above Z'kiel's head. Hopefully, the former Igenite is aware of the dual focus upon his 'poms.'

The knitter blushes but settles in pulling her bag into her lap and starts pulling what looks at first like an Afghan out, handing it over eventually, and it is as advertised, a dragon-sized hat with poms, which is judiciously being shoved in Z'kiel's direction. There's a tiny hat too, one that looks to fit a firelizard. Then she just sits and oggles, giggling at random intervals.
Greta grins back at the bluerider and does seem to listen to the conversation between her younger sister and the bronzerider. "Your dance troupe?" There's a thoughtful pause, "I don't suppose you'd be willing sometime to let me get a look at some of the costumes would you, if you still have them? I'd like to see the construction methods and styles. Might give me some ideas of what to do for my journeyman's project."

Edyis whistles low, and pulls out a pouch upending it into a bowl on the table. Jerky. Flicker there in an instant, a smile forming slowly. "Unnecessary and still, I can barely hold still when they want to use me as a dress doll." Which earns an eye roll from Greta.

Oh, he is aware. Which is precisely why the hat is going to go from one hand to the other. Brazen scurries back up, toward the rider's shoulder, with the clear intention of making his way around the long way. Pyrite might be in a better position to make a move - whatever that move may be. In either case, the hat is now firmly gripped in one hand, but with poms still exposed and jiggly. Z'kiel does sit, but only once Gerta's busy pulling out the dragon hat. One eyebrow wings slowly skyward and his eyes gloss over a bit before, at long last: "He likes it." But is that any surprise? "We can try it on. Later," is added with a flicked look to Edyis. The jerky doesn't provide enough of a distraction to summon Brazen, but it does serve to briefly pull the bronze's attention that way. To Greta, another nod, but with a warning, of sorts, "Have some. They're not... nnnh. Not what you think. Could see if Kasdeja can pick up some. Akiressina and Shadai go through costumes every monh or two." It might be a joke. It might not. Hard to tell. "Might take a few months." A shoulder rises. Falls. "Might be sooner. Depends." A flicked look is spared for Alida and her food-gathering, but she's left to dine in peace - at least on his end. Edyis, on the other hand, earns a snort. "Doesn't take much to be still for that. Just let them do as they will. Worst that happens is you need a bath and change after." Deadpan, that.

Pommmms...pompommmmms. Pyrite's swirling back and forth overhead, eyeing those fantastic headware extensions. So bright, so plump, so bouncy! Alida, on the other hand...well... whatever. Then there's another pompom hat being presented for Z'kiel. *This* time, Alida doesn't even react when Gerta plucks it forth, offers it to the bronzer, the bluerider merely tucking into her chili with the full intent of the hungry. Until... that tiny hat. Oh sweet Faranth, NO! At this point, the guard suddenly inhales to start outright giggling...and instead chokes some on her swallowed mouthful, gagging and coughing harshly while struggling to keep her tray and the food on in upright. Pyrite instantly alters her flight path to intercept her 'owner,' the gold making concerned sounds as she swirls not far above the bluie's head. Zak's poms are safe...for *now*. Wait; there's jerky put out? Pyrite appears torn between caring for her human, and wanting what Edyis has to offer.

Greta grins, "That, would be marvelous but don't put yourself out on my account." There's a look given to Edyis that almost says 'can we keep 'em?' There's another nod and a smile, "Doesn't matter if they are or aren't, it never hurts to see something different. It was a pleasure to meet you both, Ed, think Akluseth will take me up to the ledge?" Making her departure from them and leaving Gerta where she sits. Alida's choking gets a concerned look. "Oh dear, are you ok?" Moving to pat the woman on the back and make sure she can breath before departing.
"Sure," Edyis answers, with a smile. 
Watching the older of the two girls make her way out into the bowl. Greta's hats are eyed and for a moment it looks as though the brownrider has stopped breathing. Alida's choking the fire lizards entranced by the hat poms. She can't help but grin a little more widely even as her firelizard noms away at the jerky put out. Those hats though... awful tempting.
Gerta beams, "Didn't know they'd be so popular, bet I could make a mint off doing them for folks with pets. Could probably just make a string of poms for them to play with." Eyeing the little creatures with wonder. "They are so ''cute''."

"Wouldn't be a problem," Z'kiel intones with a firm nod. "I'll leave what I have with Edyis. See what I can do about the rest." A small salute is snapped off to Greta as she takes her leave, leaving him to sort out the matter with the hats - in particular, the dragon hat and the firelizard one. He extends a hand for the smaller of the two, while clicking his tongue a few times to get Brazen to pay attention. The wee bronze eventually makes his way down to perch on one of the once-Igenite's knees, head cocked, just so, as he watches what's going on. "Could be worth it," he remarks of the hats and pets and all of that. His attention is pulled to Alida, brow furrowed. He watches - and, of course, Ahtzudaeth will be the one checking with Ilicaeth to confirm her well-being - but there are other matters to attend to, as it were, if he's not immediately needed. "Here. Let's see if that fits on him," is only marginally less euphemistic than 'putting a hat on the firelizard'. That he adds, "Make him even cuter," is probably ''not'' helping things, flatly uttered as it is.

If she could avoid that pat on her back (and the concern) she would, but right now, Alida's working on just recovering, her tray set down on the floor, somehow, between spasms of coughing. Bleary green eyes glance with irritation at the departing Greta's back for a moment, then squeeze shut as another round of snotty coughing overtakes the bluie. Gerta's words of more pompoms as distractors for pets has the bluerider finally gasping out a quick, "Fuck, Ed!" and jerking her teary eyes between brownrider and said 'rider's sister for a moment. And then Z'kiel's actually considering placing that tiny touke on Brazen's grape? Coughcoughcough-gasp-giggle-wheeze-coughcough! "FUUuuuuck..!" Stop it, damn it! And Pyrite? Now that her human's sort-of talking again, the wee gold is moving to settle down with Flicker, and start nomming that bit of jerky treat.

Gerta isn't the smart one, that or she's utterly shameless since she doesn't seem to get that it's her creations causing Alida's near death experience, instead she's got eyes only for Zak, and the little-hatted bronze. "It ''does!''" She squeals delighted at the little lizard in his little hat in Z'kiel's lap.

Edyis ''looks'' at Alida at her swearing, unable to help crooking her smile at the bluerider. "Pyrite would look adorable in one don't you think?" It's possible she's taking advantage of Alida's humor. When Greta's off to bed she just looks at Z'kiel. "You know you'll never be rid of them now." The girls, the firelizards, she doesn't see the need to specify. Flicker content to watch the spectacle.

The man's willpower can only hold out so long. Z'kiel's mouth pulls to a side in a lopsided grin that he can't ''quite'' put away by the time he half-turns to face the choking bluerider over there. He holds Brazen up - with his wee hat! - and bounces the little guy a tiny bit. "She does good work," he remarks. "Pyrite might want one," is tacked on with Edyis's observation. A baffled Brazen just paws at the hat and eventually peels it off to start chewing on it - until he remembers ''jerky'' and the hat is abandoned for the sake of legitimate snacks. ''Grunt.'' "Ahtzudaeth won't be so quick to take his off. I think he just wants all the hats he can get his claws on. Rukbat knows why." He slides a look to Edyis after that, a low, throaty sound - a rusty sort of chuckle - offered up. "Guess not. There are worse things." Though what that says about his outlook on everything is questionable.

"Fffuck...you..." is gripe-gasped out at Edyis' words of Pyrite, the little queen lifting her head up from tearing off a thin strip of jerky from the main piece, and whurring in questioning fashion at the brownrider. And - be still everybody's beating heart! - Z'kiel's flopping out half a grin, which - in turn - causes the bluerider to groan and cup her forehead in both hands. Cough-sniffle-cough. Between small spasms, the blonde mutters a creaky, "Do NOT get her started." The little gold, who's currently nuzzling her green daughter as she chews...then whistles brightly to Brazen. Come and get it! As she continues to recover - and now blow nose into a quickly-produced hankee - Alida blinks up at Zak, and finally inquires in disbelief, "Ahtzudaeth..?" The *dragon*. Blink-blink. NOOOOooooo! Just barely recovered from the flit in hat, the blonde suddenly imagines Z'kiel's stately, bronze partner in not only a dragon-sized pompom hat, but a human-sized one... aaaaaaaaaand she's off, folks. Back into snickering and laughing, now bent up in half with the force of the ridiculousness of it all.

There are tears in Edyis's eyes as she watches Brazen and his hat. She can't help it, the laughter just burbles out as she watches the bronzerider bounce him. Much to Gerta's delight, (though whether, at the lizard hat or the inadvertent muscle flexing involved in such an action, the world will never know). "Aww, come on, she knit a really nice lining for one of my old messenger bags, and Flicker loves it, when she's not in my flight jacket." Edyis offers for her sister.

Greta seems to not understand the laughing, but equally seems unbothered by it. "Is he from the same clutch Flicker was out of, or did you find him wild?" She decides to ask watching the riders. "It's ok, but let me know if you've got more knitting needs. I've got my journeyman's project to figure out too, though, Jutan tells me I should settle in for a long time as an apprentice." Perhaps for obvious reasons. "

The humans are exploding with noises - so, of course, getting food seems like a much safer choice! Brazen scootle-loos over to join his dam and sister in their jerkyfest, with a wary eye angled to the loud noises over thattaway. It isn't helping that the laughter is infectious; Z'kiel chuffs out a bit of his own and, in an effort to contain himself, just doubles over in his chair and ducks his head and pinches the bridge of his nose. And, yes, somewhere in the bowl, Ahtzudaeth is ''chortling'' and it's ridiculous. The rider half recovers just enough to ''snrt'' and bark out a rough - but friendly - "Same clutch. Name's Brazen," which is probably fitting. Or not, at this juncture. "Bit my finger," is added, but with a mitigating, "Only time he ever did." He rubs at the bridge of his nose again and tries to recover, but it'll probably take him a bit to get his characteristic grim face back in place. Still: "I'm sure you'll get it. The hats-" is as far as he can get before the rust-rattle laughing takes him again.

Perhaps dammed up since time immemorial, Alida's own laughter seems to have no clear end in sight. The bent-up bluerider - now bright-pink of face - continues to gasp and wheeze, snort and snigger, guffaw and giggle. Outside and up on the Rim, Ilicaeth finally rumble-gurgles the bright echo of his rider's humor, his wings partially-open and rustling, his eyes autumnal blue and whirling quickly as they focus down-down on a certain bronze. To Ahtzudaeth is lightly (and gratefully) noted: << Seriously? >> Hats, man? Don't only humans wear those things for their thinly-covered heads? Cackle-rumble. It's good-natured humor, at least. Inside... Hearing Zak finally give in to humor seems to egg Alida on, and her near-hand starts waving ineptly at him as the woman shakes her head and wheezes for breath. Edyis, 'sadly,' is awarded only a quick but hhumongous roll of sparkling eyes and a hard snort.

Gerta laughs too, though at what she's not sure, but there's a bright smile and a ''"Sure!"'' before she has Edyis call Akluseth down. "I'm going to turn in, but it was nice meeting you Zak." The young blonde grinning at him in a way that makes Edyis laugh all the harder.

It's only when she's well out of earshot that Edyis offers a look to the two cackling riders, "You two could have hurt her feelings if she wasn't so blessedly dense." The brownrider notes with a snort. It's not the first time she was grateful that Gerta wasn't very sharp.

And, of course, the settled-in-snow bronze tips his head back to regard the blue on his heights, gaped maw and all. << Of course! >> Good-natured and effervescent, his thoughts wink and glitter with seemingly endless mirth. He even - so helpfully - shares visions of what ''Ilicaeth'' might look like with a hat on; some of the mirrors of his mind reflect himself, of course, complete with the scrap yarn hat that's awaiting him. << There is no harm in it, after all. >> and a lot of good things, it would seem, judging by the near-hysterics happening inside. Z'kiel finally, ''finally'' gets himself under control enough to properly see Gerta off with another salute - and a grin, just for her, that isn't totally lopsided. "A pleasure." And then she's gone and he's sucking down air in an attempt to forestall another round of laughter. "It's not ''her'' that I'm laughing at." And if the look he shoots to Alida all but screams 'she started it', so be it.

Continuing between gales of almost-too-harsh-to-bear laughter, Alida comments Edyis-ward (once Gerta's left, of course), "I'd...even...apolo...gize." If Gerta was sore, which she's apparently *not*. SO worth it! Outside, Ilicaeth gapes his own maw back at Ahtzudaeth, the blue's tail wriggling around like a snake's in his humor. Oh shells; if Ahtzudaeth can find enjoyment out of a hat, why can't Ilicaeth?! Images of various hats pelt the bronze like the snow that falls thickly from above: toukes, pom-poms, face-masks, sombreros and more, all in varying colors and patterns, sailing atop and off bronze and blue gourds like a train-wreck. Back inside, Alida's wiping the tears from her eyes and trying not to let herself get started on yet *another* round of unmanageable laughter, her face now red, her breaths heaving. TOO MUCH. Augh! Gasp. Over to Zak is huffed out, "Screw...you...an'...yer...bronze..." She too is pinching her nose and now shaking her head. Must. NOT. Start. Again.

Edyis props her chin on a hand, watching her friends with laughter of her own. "I'm really not sure what I'm going to do with any of you." Edyis smiles.

Oh, and how ''jauntily'' he wears those hats in the realm of minds! Ahtzudaeth even musters up the mental mojo to ''prance'' in those hats. At least until the fall of hats is too much and he's buried under a veritable avalanche of hatwear in various flavors of ridiculousness. But, he gives as well as he gets, flinging his own assortment of headgear at Ilicaeth with good humor all the while. Fortunately, this is not something Z'kiel is privy to - otherwise, he might well just dissolve into laughter all over again. He snorts, he sniffles, he finally ''coughs'' and clears things up. Still, eyes watering, he angles a look at Alida and grunts out, "Not sure he likes you like ''that''." And, before he loses it - ''again'' - he forces himself to get up and collect the big hat, which is slung over a shoulder like, well, riding straps. The 'lizard hat is tugged back onto Brazen's head, much to the firelizard's chagrin, and he tosses a mostly deadpan, "Humor us," at Edyis. Later, he'll find a way to make it up to Gerta-the-unaffected but, for now, it seems, he needs to flee to save his sanity - and what remains of his reputation.

"Just let me eat...and the problem'll...solve itself..." Alida huffs out, her face moving from red to pink again as she tries to even out her breathing. Over to the departing Z'kiel is murmured, "Think she...already *did*." Oh Faranth, No! More hat plus firelizard silliness! Must. Not. Laugh. AGAIN. Augh! A wave serves as the blonde's farewell to the bronzerider, Alida slowly sitting back up...though lifting her tray in the process...in wobbly fashion, true.
