Some of the things <br /> your character knows absolutely nothing about include: <br /> * Baths are hot! How are they hot? How does it work?<br /> * What's this meat stuff? Bread? Sugar? Why is it making you throw up all the time after you eat it? <br /> * What's paper? What about ink? <br /> * These new clothes are made of funny things. Leather, wool, linen, cotton; they're all pretty different <br /> when they're not generations old. Where do furs come from?<br /> * All the medicines are new. Numbweed? Fellis? Most herbs? Utterly foreign. <br /> * Dragons! Do they talk? What is Between? How do they mate? What's this about breathing fire? How do <br /> you become a dragonrider? Which ones are male, which are female? Conveniently, <br /> being locked up in the candidate barracks is at least making exposure to them a more gradual thing. <br /> Locked up?<br /> Oh yes. Since the status of the exiles remains uncertain - since they're here temporarily, to shelter from the <br /> storm - the weyr is taking no chances: all exiles are to be kept in the Candidate Barracks, where they've been <br /> billeted, except when with an escort. Food is delivered at regular intervals, and escorts are available to take <br /> those who need to to the necessary, to the bathing caverns, and for the occasional walk outside for fresh air. <br /> But for the most part... <br /> At least there are beds! Mattresses, furs; wonderful things. Unfortunately, the barracks are really designed for <br /> about 80 people, and there are nearly a hundred and twenty of you - things are pretty cramped. Extra mattresses <br /> line the floor, and children are sharing beds wherever possible. <br /> Still. It's not the middle of an enormous storm. Right?<br /> Junior Weyrwoman Teris is in charge, supposedly there to answer all concerns and fill any needs. She has an <br /> assistant in Assistant Headwoman Alieva (+npc/full alieva). <br /> OOCly, you are, of course, welcome to NPC an escort if you want to play outside the barracks, though this <br /> confinement will probably only last a couple of days (so don't feel too constrained!).
