The Snowasis is rarely quiet, and even then, the high-ceilinged former
weyr is kept from echoing by the fantastical booths tucked into its
convoluted perimeter. The secluded seating spaces have been shaped from
the truncated stalagmites that escaped the smoothing of the main floor,
and are both softened and separated by colorful hangings that are thick
and opaque enough to make each corner its own private nook.

Some of the smaller stalactites still roam the ceiling, their jagged teeth
tracing a bumpy, inverted spine to the hearth. There, a thick rug with a
low klah table and comfortable armchairs and couches sit, their upholstery
and cushions changed sporadically to match the season: bright, light
colors in the summer, fresh greens and yellows in the spring, warm
autumnals in fall, and clear, rich hues for winter. Small tables litter
the rest of the cavern, enough to fit up to four people each, while stools
stand along the smooth wooden bar behind which is the passthrough window
to the kitchen. Glass-paneled cabinetry behind the bar provides a clear
view of the available liquors, the many colors reflecting the soft light
of glows tucked into strategic niches around the cavern.

|log=Winter is fast approaching, a fact evidenced by the dropping temperatures and stark landscapes, but the Snowasis is a warm haven away from the chill in the air. It is only midday when Farideh enters the bar, rubbing away the cold that's settled in her fingers, and orders herself a klah-and-cream cocktail. She takes her glass and plops down on the plush sofa near the hearth, making herself at home amidst the pillows. From there, she takes to people watching - what few people there ''are'' at the Snowasis in the middle of the day - and sipping daintily of her drink.

Midday might be too early to start drinking for ''some'' people, but not H'vier. His entrance from the patio comes with no glancing around for familiar faces or hot asses. That's not why he's here. His focus is on the bar and, once he gets there, he leans against it heavily while he waits for his drink from the bartender. It doesn't take long since there aren't a ton of people drinking just yet. And he must intend on taking advantage of that.

The tall bronzerider isn't hard to ''see'', especially next to all the moderately sized people at the bar, and it's to him that the laundress' eyes slant, narrowed in thought. Farideh is busy hugging her drink, using it as a screen to partially hide her face, but the girl's favored, oversized bird's nest of a topknot might be a giveaway if anyone looked hard enough. And she, at least, is staring hard enough for two people.

He finishes one drink and orders another before turning to the rest of the bar as though to find somewhere else, somewhere more private, to sit. It's on his way to a booth that H'vier notices Farideh's familiar head, and his steps hesitate momentarily before he moves instead to settle into a chair near the laundress. He looks at her, making it more obvious that he's aware of her presence, but he offers no greeting.

Eyes are averted when the dragonrider comes near, but they flick back when he sits, aptly conveying her curiosity. "Hello--" Farideh begins, lifting her lips from the rim of her glass, "H'vier." She gives the proper greeting, even if he won't, and offers him a false smile. "How have ''you'' been? Well I hope," after which her drink is lifted again and she resumes her slow sips, fingers tangled up around the slim profile of the cup.

"Farideh," says the bronzerider in kind, voice rough but deliberate. "Same as always, I suppose." H'vier doesn't bother smiling at her, but his gaze lingers as she takes a drink of her klah. "You?" He's pretty decent at pretending to sound interested in things, but his lack of act right now is obvious in that he probably doesn't care how she's been. But he asks all the same, so that should count for something.

"Cheating on your girlfriend and being an ass?" is posed innocently, with a beguiling smile that those not well-versed in Farideh's personality might assume ''is'' nice. "Life goes on in the laundry. Dirty underpants to wash. Gossip to spread. That sort of thing." Farideh crosses one leg over the other, lowering her glass long enough to meet H'vier's gaze straight-on. "Talked to Lya lately? I haven't had the time, or she hasn't, whichever it happens to be."

"There is no girlfriend," H'vier tells her what she no doubt already knows. But he won't dignify (or deny?) the accusation of being an ass with a response. He meets her gaze, though there's a slight shift in his expression, harder, when she brings up Lycinea. "All the time. She likes to tell me how much she hates you when we're fucking," he lies. It's an obvious lie, but he's clearly not thrilled with Lya being brought up. Perhaps by Farideh in particular.

Doubtless Farideh doesn't notice the shift, his lack of enthusiasm to talk about Lycinea, but being the instigator that she is, she can't help but ''push''. "Why would she have sex with ''you''? We both know she has higher standards than the both of us put together," she says flippantly, slim brows lifted. "Don't you ever talk in non-crude terms?"

There are probably no small amount of people that have higher standards than H'vier, considering his tend to run very simply along the lines of 'female.' "Why wouldn't she? I'm good." He'd probably have a better personality if he wasn't, truth be told. As for talking in non-crude terms, "When I need to." This is clearly not one of those times. "Would you like me better if I did?"

A single expression, that of brows lifted, eyes rolled, while she drinks from her glass suffices as her response to his claims; they won't go there, or, she won't. "I would, if you weren't so--" Farideh's eyes flick over H'vier, from his head to his toes, and she sighs. "Not ''everything'' is about sex or-- sex. You could ask my hobbies? Or you could ask about any places I've been recently? Any great gossip I've heard?" She looks at the rider expectantly, but given who he is, she shouldn't.

His claims don't need her input, obviously. He has more than enough that whatever she might say probably wouldn't matter to him anyway. H'vier studies her for a few moments, though, clearly thinking about something. Then he sighs out a breath and says, "Tell me about your hobbies, Farideh." Never mind that he sort of sounds like he's already bored of them before she's even gotten started. But he'll make an ''effort''.

''His'' effort, bored or not, earn him a brilliant smile. "How nice of you to ask, H'vier. I like to swim, but not her, not in the lake. Ista has beautiful beaches. I like parties - gathers, masquerades, anything with food, and music, and a chance to dress up." Farideh leans to the side, sinking into the cushions, and has an inquisitive stare for the bronzerider. "What about ''you''? What are ''your'' hobbies? Besides sex."

The bronzerider relaxes somewhat when she doesn't make a mockery of his attempt to hold a casual conversation with her. "I work out." Though H'vier might just consider that an extension of his duties. "I enjoy visiting Ista's beaches. And going to gathers. Preferably with a date." Though he's probably willing to wing it, too. "I enjoy spending time with my children," is added after a moment. There must be a human being in there somewhere, after all!

		+	A deliberate pause follows the man's words, wherein the laundress regards him with an unfathomable mien. "You work out? For fun?" Farideh's pert nose wrinkles in distaste. "How does ''that'' work? Do you run in the mountains, with scenery? Do you swim leagues in the ocean?" She sounds mildly amused, but her lips are busy slurping quietly at the layer of cream on the top of her beverage. "You like Ista? Oh, you're ''from'' Ista, right?" Conversational, really, the way she moves from point to point, and finally, graces the large bronzerider with an effusive smile. "We should go. Sometime." ''That'' is as nice as she's ever been - to him - but she tops there, because feigning interest in his children would just be ''too much'', even for her.

		+	"Sometimes for fun. Sometimes out of necessity. Sometimes to manage my... temper." Sometimes it works better than others. "I enjoy swimming, but running works better. Running on the beach, in the sand, is particularly engrossing." H'vier watches Farideh's smiling without returning his own. As though he doesn't trust that she's being sincere and therefore doesn't think it requires reciprocation. "I'm from Ista," he agrees. "I'd be willing to take you if you'd like to accompany me at some point." See, he can totally be polite.

		+	"You have a temper? No!" Those lips, so used to sass, twitch with ill-repressed humor. "I don't think I've ever ''worked out'', but I do love to swim. I guess I have, in that respect." Farideh reaches forward to set her nearly-completed drink on the table, and then sinks back into the cushion, crossing her arms over her chest while she contemplates H'vier. "I would like that, as long as you promise not to ''fight''," rich, coming from ''her'', "and to keep your hands to yourself. Promise?"

		+	Now H'vier offers a brief, if forced, smile for his temper. "I'll promise only on the condition that you don't pick any fights with me." It's a perfectly reasonable condition, even coming from ''him''. And he seems well aware that she's just as prone to it as himself. "I'll keep my hands to myself, regardless. At least where you're concerned. I won't promise to not get distracted by someone less frigid." This will surely go well.

		+	''Whom'' is doing the asking? Farideh's lips purse, her head canted to rest partially on her shoulder, and she takes a moment to give that proposition some thought. "Fine, I can keep my words ''nice'', as long as you do, and you can have your warm and willing women so long as you wait until I am otherwise occupied to find some bush to fall into." There, pleasant and promised. She holds out her hand, half-coming off the couch to reach her arm in his direction. "We have a deal. Ista's next gather."

		+	The bronzerider studies her for another moment or two, then leans forward to accept her hand and seal their impromptu deal. H'vier doesn't sit back in his seat, though, instead following through to rise up. "Make sure you look nice," he tells her as though it's something he ''needs'' to tell her. But, then, Lya's been his date to a good number of gathers and he bought a decent portion of her wardrobe himself. "I need another drink," is his excuse for taking his leave, even if he's not done with the one he currently has quite yet.

		+	A sunny smile is her farewell, paired with her wiggling fingers in a wave goodbye. In the bronzerider's absence, Farideh crosses her legs and grabs her drink, resuming her people-watching antics on her lonesome.
