| log = “Been a long time, Jo,” and this isn’t the first time Aiven’s said this since he’d walked into the mess of an dilapidated barn. He’s set himself up at the entrance, one of the doors hanging off its latch. Eyes were always moving while he talked. Nothing’s changed with him.

Nothing’s changed, to Jo. “Yer a man of business, aren’cha?” she fielded out to the loan shark of Keogh, having just laid out the deal her and Aishani had been pedaling and shopping about to potential allies. Leaning within the opening of the barn and keeping him within her sights, “Ya don’ gotta look at it as helpin’ the Weyr. Think of it as….bringin’ better business to the Reaches. Gets yer name out a little. Imagine the possibilities.” She’s made it sound so enticing. It doesn’t help the way she leaned against the wall, too – just a bit of midriff exposed when her black leathered shoulders moved.

Aiven noticed all – every subtle shift of seduction besides those words. It’s hard to tell on his furrowed expression if it’s working. He drew a finger across his chin before he gestured outside the barn and said, “The Weyr’s changed you,” in open observation. It’s better, to him, to delay an answer. He looked her over without apology, nodding a few times before he met her gaze. “You didn’t deal in making deals when we last worked with each other.”

She snorted. “Ya survive by changin’ yer spots every so often,” Jo countered evenly. “We both used to work for Kimren at the same time’n look at ''you''. Ya upped’n got yer own business now, loanin’ shit out to folks and gettin’ shit back with interest. Looks like to me that I ain’ the only one here that’s changed.”

Aiven laughed, his head tilted back a little. Touche. “Alright,” he seemed to finally give in, straightening up his posture. “Are you working alone?” he asked now, returning his interest to the business at hand.

“Of course not.”

“Will I get to see your partner?”

“Up to the partner,” Jo answered just as shortly as she pushed herself off the wall and approached him. “Ya use our protection. Ya don’ ask questions. We’ll talk payment, right? Somethin’ reasonable between our parties.” She turned to leave, Tacuseth waiting out back.

Aiven chuckled only once, letting that be his agreement. “If your people are reliable,” he called out to her back, “then I will be more favorable on the terms of payment. Don’t be a stranger in Keogh?” He managed to stop her in her tracks, the leather clad dragonrider having turned back to regard him. “They’re well, you know,” he added with just that bit of smugness to suggest he knows something she doesn’t. “Your family. Your father. Your brothers. You should stop by more often, Jo,” and now he smiled, revealing a missing tooth. “Exchange some marks and catch up on old stomping grounds.”

Jo just turned and walked away.
