N’ky curled closer against her in the next of mattresses they’d made in her couch. It was late, but not so late that the rest of the weyrlings were asleep; the soft sounds of their evenings winding down filtered through into the couch, gentle, irrelevant background noise.

He breathed in the scent of her hide, barely masked by the unfragranced oil. That was just how she liked it.

Dragon> Cailluneth’s protective bubble formed around them, a shimmering rainbow meant for just them. Just the two of them - ''their'' place, where moonlight shone silver-bright and the darkness was soft as velvet. << You don’t like me sharing the kill, my heart. >> The tang of hot copper, their bubble turning crimson with the spill of precious heart’s blood. Not overwhelming, not as before; she’s learning her lesson.

Shaking his head, N’ky raised his head from where he had his pillow pressed against her foreleg, propping himself up on one elbow. << I’m not meant for blood. >> Regretful, softened by a tickling finger run along the base of her neckridges. He loved how that made her croon in pleasure, loved how she shared that with him. His thoughts told her as much, too. << I want to share everything with you, my heart, but I can’t share that. I don’t enjoy it like you do – but I ''do'' enjoy ''you'' enjoying it. I… I can try to learn to like it. I’ll try, still. >>

Dragon> A surge of warmth, blood dissipating into a surge of rosy love, petal-dark comfort, a warm blanket drawn over them both. << One. >> An echo of the earlier conversation with H’kon; a confirmation that she, ''they'', are correct. They ''are'' one. One mind, nursing silken purple thoughts of velvet slumber.

N’ky settled back down again, curling his arm over Cailluneth’s shoulders, in front of her wings, coaxing her into comfort as he found it for himself. << I won’t let you hurt yourself, Cailluneth. Never. >> He pressed his cheek to her hide, sighing softly.

Dragon> The deep purple blanket of sleep draws tighter around them, a star-speckled sky shimmering above. << Nor I you, my heart. >>

<< Sleep now, and we’ll wake to see the moons. Belior is almost full. >>

Dragon> A silvery orb appears in their sky; a beautiful, still, peaceful guardian of the night, ringed in shimmering blood-red. << Sleep. >>

Beyond that, the last thoughts N’ky had were of love, and of the warmth of his dragon so close to him in their self-made nest.
