It wasn't at all the fact that the green's rider was female...nor was it that said green was one Ilicaeth had taken a shine to, even after losing her previous Flight.

''This'' time, however, Ilicaeth wasn't as untried, as scattershot, nor as tightly-controlled/inhibited by his own rider's mind.

What Alida walked into with somewhat less than hard-fought-for control of herself and Ilicaeth turned into a blood letting in the sky. The blue abandoned the all-out mode of pursuit during the mating flight this time, and went for something he usually practiced only internally on the mental board of strategy : cold and calculating viciousness.

A brown abandoned the chase not long after they all took off after the green, one of his shoulders bruised enough by Ilicaeth's ramming sideswipe of it to hamper the kind of flight needed to pursue a randy green. A fellow blue was his next target, the larger, slightly slower male falling victim to a combined spurt of furious speed and a lightning-fast, shallow swipe of coppery claws upon belly as the grittier blue slickly barrel-rolled upwards beneath him for a moment. Even a bronze - much too large to ever really be able to keep up the blistering pace - fell behind and never even had a single chance, given Ilicaeth's stingingly-painful lashing of his passing tail across the bigger dragon's nose.

By the time the blue was sneaking up beneath his newest lady love, however, he'd spent too much precious energy. Even as those vicious talons more tenderly seized the green, she was wrested from that grasp by a smaller brown suitor above who'd showed more Turns of chasing savvy than the somewhat-'green' blue.

Screaming in frustrated fury, Ilicaeth hissed and tried to bite at the mating couple before he fell away, succeeding only in scraping one wing's talon across the green's haunch as he aimed for the cold Weyr lake far below.

What emerged from the flight cave in a staggering list not long after was a ragged-looking, wild-eyed Alida, her hair partially pulled from its usually immaculate braid, one of her eyes already puffing and beginning to blacken, a myriad of bruises dotting other parts of her form...her knuckles cut and swelling. Ilicaeth's fury had possessed his lifemate, and made her hurt almost as much as the unlucky riders she'd left in two semi- and fully unconscious heaps on the stony floor.

At least there was copious beer flowing in the living cavern, and luckily nobody was foolish enough to try and distract the blonde from it...though the next day, there was a visit to the infirmary and a few questions to answer through a hangover.
