It burned her up. Every time she let herself be anything less than ''swamped'' with things to do, the stupid voice in the back of her head would whisper her name. ''Fayla''.

How ''dare'' that woman be carrying his child. How dare she still be working with him. Did she really believe that H'vier would resist a temptation like that? She'd known how much he'd enjoyed her being pregnant with Tahvra, how he'd sit and watch as if he could see her belly grow if only he looked for long enough. He'd fucked her once… But no. Tayte couldn't think of it ''like that''. She mustn't. She trusted him, didn't she? Well, no, not really, but she had to pretend that too.

So she kept busy. She even skipped her sevenly bath time in K'del's private bath with her wine and her ''expensive'' candles because that gave her too much time to think. She was watching a bronzerider work at a greenrider to let him take her home in Snowasis when it dawned on her. If Fayla's having a baby -- no, not ''a'' baby, ''his'' baby -- made her a greater temptation, then Tayte simply needed to up her game. But how. The answer came when a pretty blonde sitting at the bar gave her a smile. Serendipity.

Tayte was excited. That gave her pause. It was the first time, in a long time, that the prospect of being with someone else made her excited. Oh, sure, she'd hit on Jo, but did she really think Jo would take her up on her offer after everything? Not really, but it was fun to do, and if it'd started to happen… well, then she would've had a decision to make. As her father always told her, the first step to dancing was ''being asked to dance'', or in this case, finding a partner.

It wasn't ''that'' blonde that she brought home, but she did start letting herself flirt a little at the bar. Not when she was on duty, of course. Well, not unreasonably, anyway. She started having drinks with a slender blonde bluerider that suited her, and she thought, would suit him (but then, she had breasts, so wasn't that enough?).

"Well, what do you think?" Tayte could feel the tingle of nerves that was, this time, pleasant because it was so foreign after turns of (almost) complete fidelity.

The bluerider looked back at her thoughtfully. "Well, ''you''… in a heartbeat, Tayte. But him? I've ''heard'' about him."

Tayte bit her lower lip. "It would be fun," she tried, lamely. Then reached a hand to pass self-consciously through her hair. "I'm sorry. I haven't picked anyone up sober in a ''long'' time." There was a blush on her cheeks and she knew it.

But that was enough to make the bluerider laugh. "What the shell. Why not? It ''will'' be fun. You just see to it that he doesn't break me for wanting to lay hands on you."

Tayte flushed brighter in-- she wasn't even sure. Excitement? Embarrassment? Something? "I'm sure we can distract him from any homicidal thoughts he might be encouraged to have." She hoped her nervousness, the kind she knew all too well, didn't show in her smile.

It was perfect, really. Though their two turn anniversary had been last month, their three turn anniversary of the first time they slept together here at 'Reaches (trust Tayte to know a date like that) was only a seven or so way, and she always tried to make that night special.

"Why don't you come by tomorrow and we can pick out some things to wear? I think my old things will fit you." The ones from before Tavi.

The bluerider laughed again. "Alright, but not because I don't have things of my own. I expect you to model for me, you realize."

That made Tayte's blush spread, the heat filling her chest and radiating elsewhere. What did she say to that? She wasn't ''supposed to'', without H'vier… but… if it was ''for'' him (it ''was'' for him, right?), then that would be okay, wouldn't it? And if they had a little practice at how ''they'' fit together… wouldn't that make it better for him in the end?

She left it at that, swallowing down her drink and making her excuses.

For the first time, in over two turns, she felt the ''good kind'' of butterflies. She needed this.
