<< Come, >> Vrianth had said, and Leova had come, wrapped up in her fuzzy robe and fleece-lined slippers. She had stayed with Vrianth for a little while, but then the curtain had opened for her, one intensely jeweled eye fixing her in her dragon's regard. Cold had seeped in, eager, interested, exploring her dragon's weyr. She felt Vrianth's deliberate shiver.

Frost slips along the rutted stone of her ledge and sidles up the retaining walls. The trees' branches are sheened with it. The mobile turns within them, not untouched.

What is different rests at one tree's base, in easy reach, but she looks at the scroll for long moments before reaching for it.

She can feel Vrianth leaning to look, through her, with her.

She reads, while that electricity fizzes up and down her spine. She reads and then she rolls it ''right back up''. She looks back at Vrianth, who is no help whatsoever. She looks beyond her. She could explain, but then she'd have to explain what lay under that, and under that, and under that. She doesn't know if she '''can''' explain.

She stashes the scroll with Vrianth's things. It's not hidden the way she knows how to hide things, like the ring she still has, and the card; it's just... put away.

She doesn't feel forty-four.

She tucks Vrianth's curtain in, and then the green herself, and then she goes back to her weyrmate and their bed to get warm.

On the morning of her Turnday, Leova will find a tightly rolled scroll left on her ledge. There's no note or anything else to go with it. The writing is careful, deliberate:
