Distracted by the goings-on in the Snowasis, by talking with Alida and Tayte, N’ky almost doesn’t recognise the rising heat of his lifemate’s mind as she quickly shifts from amusement into blood-thirsty huntress, upon watching Solith smash the feeding pens.

Was there someone talking to him? He was sure someone in their little trio was trying to ask him… whatever. Something. He couldn’t concentrate on ''them'' and ''her'', though, especially not when he could feel the build-up of bloodlust and the familiar lifeblood tang in the back of his throat, shared by Cailluneth.

Through her, he could see the escaped herdbeast that she’d targeted; it was running free, and the faster it ran, the harder it would be to—

— resist.

He’d cottoned onto late; she’d launched from her ledge, plummeting towards the bowl with more agility than her bulky form would suggest. Through their connection, heightened as he tried to focus, tried to calm her, tried to get ''control'' like he’d been taught in all those lessons, he could feel the snap of bone and the rending of hide and flesh as her talons snagged the beast’s back. It snapped beneath her weight as she sent the doomed creature tumbling end over end across the snowy bowl, before she thudded to the ground and dropped her maw to crunch through its pitiful neck. A quick shake, and he could feel the life leaving it, while his mouth – Cailluneth’s mouth – filled with the metallic tang of blood.

After a turn of Cailluneth sharing her lust for blood with him, N’ky no longer gagged at the taste of it. It was familiar, just as the state of her feeding mind was, and it allowed him to form the shimmering, rainbow bubble around their thoughts that would calm her, soothe her, get her back under his control.

It worked.

He relaxed, leaving her to her kill; there was nothing to be done about it now, not without wasting precious resources.

Retaining a more conscious connection with his lifemate, he blinked, snapping back to attention where he stood in the Snowasis, with Alida and Tayte talking beside him. Confused by the change in tension between the two women in the moments he was distracted, he scratches at the base of his skull, just beneath the curls that crown the top of his neck, as he tries to work it out. "Cailluneth needed me," he explains vaguely. "Um... you asked me something?"

Cailluneth had already finished her feed, making short work of the small herdbeast. As he picked up the shot set out for him, he urged her to go bathe as he knew she would want to, then pressed for her to return to their ledge to watch the skies until he called on her later.

Subdued in her satiated state, Cailluneth agreed, replacing the blood-and-adrenaline of her huntress mind with the warm, gushy goldenpink and the loving lub-dub of her ever-present heartbeat that was all ''his''. As ever, it made N’ky melt inside, glowing as hot as the metal he worked with as he returned her love with his own.

All settled, all calm, he could return to the conversation.
