|log=The clear and cloudless sky, with the occasional cool breeze, is perfect outside dating weather, even with the lingering dunes of white filling the bowl. It's at the appointed time in the early evening that Farideh sets up camp near the patio ledge, bearing gifts aplenty; a couple bottles of wine, a sack of snacks, and a blanket, you know, if anyone needs it. She's dressed in her typical fare, with that ridiculously bright red cap pulled over her curls. Her expression is ''happy'' while she waits for her companions to join her, her body swaying back and forth, and the closer someone gets, they might hear her humming softly to herself.

Since he hadn't been given much detail about ''what'' was happening, Drex doesn't appear to have much much of an effort. Certainly not ''double date'', or even ''date'' effort, wearing his usual clothes, coat keeping out any lingering winter cold still clinging to the air. There's a wariness in the way he regards Farideh as he approaches, as if he's not sure what to expect and it's apparent he doesn't enjoy that prospect all that much.

No dresses for Itsy, this evening, although since the invitation came from ''Farideh'' she's at least made some effort with her appearance... which means she's wearing a slightly nicer shirt than usual, and her boots are mostly clean. She's a few paces behind Drex-- more than a few, really, and ''his'' presence - despite their recent conversation - draws a pause, and a pair of raised eyebrows, arms crossing in front of her.

Laine's approach is readily visible as she traipses a wandering path from the crafting complex, across the Weyr bowl, and toward that brilliant red cap. It's possible she doesn't have much else (at least, date-appropriate) to wear but her standard fare, and she's all... poofy in her heavy winter jacket and scarf and crooked, lopsided knit toque pulled down over her ears. Though her balled-up mittened fists are pushed into her pockets, one pocket looks ''lumpier'' than the other.

Each of their arrivals is noted with animated eyes and a smile. "I have wine," Farideh says to Drex, happily, holding up the two bottles she's got, by the necks; surprise? "Itsy," her grin grows wider, "that," with a finger on her other hand pointed to the fast-approaching Laine, "is Laine. She's a tanner apprentice." She waits until Laine gets closer to inform ''her'', "This is ''Itsy''." Now that the introductions are done, everything will take care of itself, right? She grabs the bags of snack foods and holds it out to Drex, obviously intending to pass it off to him. "At least it's not ''snowing''."

It'd be nearly impossible for Drex not to be aware of Itsy's approach, the familiar clomp of her boots if nothing else, making the sailor half turn to regard her, with a frown that's more surprise at her presence than unhappiness at it. When Laine arrives shortly after, his brows go ''up'', and then he's ''staring'' at Farideh all expectantly like, ''the fuck''? Even her introductions earn a furrow of brow, because he ''knows'' everyone already, and he totally leaves her hanging, holding those bags. "You said there was a surprise?"

Beyond mere raised eyebrows, now, Itsy seems inclined to ''stare'', outright, first at Farideh, then at Laine, and then even at Drex, although he probably doesn't deserve it. "Hi?" she says, finally - and it probably can't even be described as 'remembering her manners' - as she glances back at the tanner. "What're we-- what is this?"

When Laine pulls one hand out of her pocket, there's definitely a crumply, crinkly kind of sound, but it's just her hand, offered to Itsy, that's immediately apparent. "Hi," she says, first to Itsy with a bright, toothy smile, and then it's repeated, "hi," again to Drex, but ''he'' doesn't get a handshake because she knows him already. Then everyone's ''staring'' at everyone else and Laine spends an awkward beat trying to figure out what to do with her hands, ultimately deciding to cross them over her chest and making a pointed attempt ''not'' to stare at anyone. Oh, hey, what's this bit of lint doing on her sleeve?

"There ''is''," Farideh says. "I brought wine." She shakes the bottles as well as she can with them being clutched in her fingers, and keeps holding the bag out to him, persistently. It's ''Itsy's'' remark that garners a pucker of forehead and a bemused smile. "It's a double date," like they should ''all'' know, though obviously, only two of them ''do''.

The look Drex gives Itsy in turn is mildly suspicious, but it fades swiftly enough at ''her'' reaction. His look at Laine is certainly not suspicious, more ''curious''. His, "Should've brought ''rum''," is heart-felt enough, but it's Farideh's latter words that make him ''stare''. "Wait, ''what''?" He takes ''another'' look at Laine, more closely, now. Nevermind that he's awkwardly staring at her. What a great start to the date! He ''still'' hasn't taken those bags, terrible boy that he is.

Seeming to remember, belatedly, that hand-shakes are polite (especially when a hand is offered to you), Itsy reaches out to take Laine's hand. Only... then she stops. Because: "Double date?" The ''look'' Farideh gets is not quite horrified, but it isn't far off, either. "What. The. Fuck?"

That responding hand-shake is perfunctory at best, since Laine is doing her utmost to avoid eye contact with ''both'' Drex and Itsy. Welp. If no one else is going to take that wine, Laine will, relieving Farideh of them both with a quick, pointed look that may or may not impart the attitude of someone about to get ''super drunk'', as quickly as possible. Laine clears her throat, scratches her nose, and mumbles something under her breath about a corkscrew.

A ''put upon'' sigh is Farideh's first reaction to all of theirs. "Why do I have to spell everything out for you two, ''all the time''?" She shoves the bag at Drex, this time, and waves the wine bottles at the two other girls. "What do you mean? ''You'' like girls. ''She'' likes girls--" She must think this is the only qualifier in potential dating material; then again, looking at who ''her'' date is, that might not be surprising. Another wave of the bottles would be forthcoming, but Laine takes them and she's left to fumble into her jacket pockets. "I brought one-- oh." Relief floods her face when she pulls out the necessary mechanism and hands it over to the tanner. "Besides, you're both ''nice''," not Drex, "and I think you should at least ''try''."

Drex takes the bag, or rather, kind of reflexively grabs at it when it's stuffed in his direction. He's kind of staring at Farideh, like even ''he'' thinks this is a bad idea, and he's a boy and knows nothing about relationships. (Clearly.) Perhaps in an effort to make things less awkward, or just change the topic, he clears his throat. "Been meeting to catch you," he tells Laine. "Got something for you." He digs into his coat, and pulls out a gray scarf, which he offers to Laine. Farideh will recognize it as the one she 'lost' to Drex some months ago. "Probably not as useful since it's spring now, but," he gives a kind of discomforted shrug.

Does it help that the glance Itsy aims at Laine is apologetic? It's not ''her'' fault that this is a stupid idea, or that the sailor is so clearly unhappy about it. Really, under normal circumstances, Itsy might like her just fine! But now... "You gotta ''warn'' a person," she says, voice raised, loud enough to carry. "Can't just... It's not... ''no''."

Laine, gratefully accepting the corkscrew, does a half-turn away from the three so she can open that bottle as discreetly and promptly as possible. There's one astonished, open-mouthed glance shot back over her shoulder (meeting that apologetic look from Itsy with no little amount of discomfiture) when Farideh begins to explain her reasoning. But then that grey-eyed gaze sliiiides over to Drex and Laine's forced to do her best impression of someone trying to be gracious while also desperately opening a bottle of wine. "Oh. ''Oh.'' Okay," and she has to tuck the half-decorked bottle in her armpit to accept the scarf, but she drapes it over her neck anyway. Bemused: "Thanks. Did you, uh," ''pop'', cork's out, "Not ''tell'' them that's what this was, Farideh?" Aaaand... ''drink''.

"No. ''Why''? What ''difference'' does it make?" Farideh settles her now-free hands on her hips, staring from Laine to Itsy like maybe they're both frothing at the mouth. "You could bump into her in the caverns, ''or'' I could make it easy by introducing you." She glances at the apprentice, her lips pursing briefly, before she changes her tactic, because that's definitely going to win her some points. "Laine was just stood up by some heartless girl that works with me, and ''I'', trying to be a great friend, thought I could help both of you. Is that so wrong?" Her expression is largely a mixture of badly feigned innocence and watery guilt, but that quickly transforms when her head whips around to watch Drex handing the gray scarf to Laine. "Did you just-- why are you giving her ''my'' scarf?" She looks ''pissed'' about it, now.

Drex's still not quite sure what he's supposed to do with the bag of snacks so he's just kind of holding it in one hand. He gives Farideh an odd sort of look, but is perhaps wise enough not to comment on her explaination. When Farideh turns on him, he gives her a blank look. "What?" with a furrow of brow, and a glance at Laine -- or the scarf, maybe. "It aint yours. I won it from you, so it was mine. And she... helped me, ok? Weren't you just saying you wanted us to all be friends?" Well, that's what he ''heard'', even if it wasn't precisely what she said.

Itsy, having failed to take any of the supplies, has both hands to put on her hips, now, just... just ''staring''. "Why don't you ''tell'' a person?" she demands, voice raised. "You can't just-- you don't-- ''fuck'' this shit." That's when she reaches out as if to take the bottle from Laine; she may need it. They may all need it.

"Bi-i-i-ig difference," Laine murmurs to her newest friend, Bottle of Tillek Red, meeting Farideh's glance with raised eyerbrows. "Like, capital B, capital D, Big Difference." The apprentice is mid-swig when the ''scarf'' is called into question, and it's a sputtering, "oh, ''come on''!" that has Laine handing the bottle off to Itsy and unwinding the scarf like it's on fire. It dangles between pinched index and thumb, and Laine lands an aggrieved eyeroll on Drex. "You ''didn't''!"

Itsy and Laine will just have to bond over the wine for now - or perhaps that was the plan all along - because now Drex is in trouble and Farideh's focusing on ''him''. "No. It is ''my'' scarf and I lent it to you. You didn't win anything." And no amount of Laine's offering it back appeases the laundress, who doesn't remove her glare from the tall sailor, even when she holds out her hand for the ''other'' wine bottle.

Drex definitely looks like ''he'' wants the wine, or something ''stronger'', right about now. His, "What?" to Laine, seems genuinely dumbfounded. "It was ''mine'' to give." He slides a glance towards Itsy for support; understands the pirate code of ownership better than anyone. He holds up his hands, defensively -- or his hand and a bag of snacks, anyway. "I did! I won it fare and square." Mostly. "I was trying to be ''nice'', Farideh. She helped me, I mean, ''us''. So it should be a present from both of us." Logic.

Itsy, accepting the bottle, drinks deeply; and then a second time. "Sorry," she murmurs, to the apprentice, glancing sidelong at her rather than at Drex and Farideh; their argument definitely has nothing to do with her. Even when Drex looks at her - ''she'' looks away. "It's not... you. Not like..." Pause. "Sorry."

Laine's reluctant to give up that second bottle of wine, especially since it means wrapping the grey scarf around one wrist (as neither Farideh nor Drex seem inclined to take it away from her), but she plunges the corkscrew into the bottle and once the wine is freed she takes a deep, long drink. Then she holds the bottle out between Farideh and Drex, allowing either to help themselves to it. Itsy's apology is met with a wan, crooked smile and a one-shouldered shrug. "S'okay. Seems like a, uh. Miscommunication."

"You must think I'm stupid," Farideh accuses of Drex, before gladly turning to take the second bottle. It's her turn to avail herself of of a long drink, followed by a screwed up face; bit off more than she could chew. "''I'm'' certainly never helping any of you ever again. I ''tried'' to do something nice and you all just--" She makes a disgruntled sound and takes another pull off the bottle.

Drex gives Laine, of all people, a beseeching look, as if to say ''help me'', but it's to Farideh that he says, "She was the one that suggested flowers, so I thought I'd give her something in turn. You can't fault me on that." Except she has, and she is, and the sailor's looking as frustrated as Farideh. Especially since he hasn't touched a bottle yet, and the bag of snacks has been all but forgotten. Instead, he stomps towards Itsy and holds out a hand for the bottle she has.

"Doesn't mean you're not pretty," blurts Itsy, still looking at Laine. She's too busy looking at the tanner to really notice Drex, so he may need to take the bottle from her by force. See, Farideh? Not ''everything'' is going terribly. Sort of.

Pinching the bridge of her nose between two fingers, Laine's too busy tracking the merry-go-round of bottles to notice Drex's imploring look, and Faranth knows she's not interested in getting between ''those'' two. She does offer a mild, "''Really'', Farideh--" but whatever else she's about to say after that is abruptly arrested in favour of gaping at Itsy, cheeks flushing hot and red. "Oh." Laine is ''very'' interested in that grey scarf. "Um. Thanks. I like your, uh," there's a gesture, then, that might as well say 'your everything'.

Farideh seems not to notice that her plan is ''kind of'' going as it should, or Laine's attempt to help the sailor out, because she's too busy scoffing at Drex and his ''logic''. "You had to ''ask'' someone for help? You couldn't even be ''genuine''? And you got mad at ''me'' for talking to someone about us, then you already told Rafevan ''and'' Laine?" She flings out a hand - thankfully, the hand not holding the bottle - and turns to stare at him with all of her anger plainly on her face.

Drex has never really needed permission before, so he does a trade: snatches the bottle from Itsy while she's looking at Laine, (and vice-versa), and shoves the bag of snacks into the other sailor's arms as replacement. It's about then that he notices the exchange between tanner and sailor, ''staring'' for a heartbeat or two, and then edging towards Farideh, he nudges her: "Look at them," he hisses, like she might not have noticed in amongst her yelling at him. "How the fuck did you do ''that''?" he marvels. "You're like a... a lesbian whisperer or something." It's not that he hasn't noticed she's angry at him, exactly. He's just kind of distracted by this whole, weird, situation.

Oh look: now ''Itsy'' is blushing, too, her head ducked low. Indeed, it's enough that she only seems to register that she now has ''snacks'' instead of ''wine'' well after Drex performs the swap; and she seems genuinely bewildered by it. "You... want something to eat?" She has snacks! Apparently.

Laine falters, a flash of grey eyes toward Drex and Farideh and an instant of diffidence, but then all that hesitation dissolves and is replaced with a brilliant, wide grin. "Yeah, I do. What's in there, anyway?" She reaches a hand to pluck at the corner of the bag, stepping closer to Itsy with a deliberate turn of her shoulder and back to the other two.

The sudden change of direction catches Farideh off guard, but she doesn't immediately switch topics, instead aiming a backhanded slap towards his arm so he ''remembers'' she's still mad. Then, tucking her hair behind her ears and sighing dramatically, she does as he says, slanting a look towards the two newly blushing girls. "Oh." Vindicated. "I ''told'' all of you that they would like each other," in a horrible stage whisper. ''Some'', but not all, of her anger melts away, and she politely averts her eyes; for privacy and whatnot.

The sailor takes the slap with a grimace, but he doesn't otherwise complain. Drex, for his part, is probably distracted watching the other pair avidly. At least for a short time, before he glances down, then over to Farideh. Undertoned: "We have both bottles of wine. We could sneak off?" he suggests. "Let me ''apologize'' in person." Or not apologize, as the case may be.

"I dunno," admits Itsy, though she seems as interested as Laine is in finding out - or perhaps it's just because ''Laine'' is interested! She shifts the bag in her grasp, making it easier for the apprentice to get a look inside, though her gaze is already slanting back to the other two; she's not ''deaf'', after all. "You're disgusting," she tells Drex. "And you're both..." Her gaze is meaningful. "Thought this was a ''double'' date."

That grin of Laine's is turned back over her shoulder, on the heels of Itsy's words. "And friends ''share'' wine," she admonishes, though it might be a bit muffled as she's rummaging though the sack--clearly she's assuming, since there's no more shouting, that everything's panned out. Friends, yay!

Looking away doesn't mean she can't ''eavesdrop'', which is exactly what Farideh does until Drex starts talking and distracting her with ''suggestions''. She takes her own advice for once, and turns away from him, semi-presenting her back. "And why would I do that?" she says offhandedly, though not quite convincing enough, before taking a short sip from her bottle. It's Itsy, again, who brings her focus back to the two other girls. "What? ''Now'' it's a double date? Before it ''wasn't right''."

"Becauuuse," Drex leans closer to Farideh's ear as if to mutter something rather juicy indeed. He's grinning, looking pleased with himself, before he notices the other two have stopped being distracted. His, "What?" in response to Itsy is entirely unapolgetic and unrepentant both; he takes a gulp from his bottle, before offering his bottle in Laine's direction as, presumably, some sort of peace offering attempt.

"Can't spring these things on people. People got to make up their own mind, go in with open eyes," announces Itsy, firmly, with a toss of her hair. "But now that we've worked that much out... seems a waste otherwise. Right?" Those blue-green eyes take them all in, one by one. "Or're you to good to hang with us, now there's someone t'fuck?"

Laine pauses in her foraging to accept the wine from Drex with an embellished gesture, and she doesn't waste much time in putting it to her lips and drinking eagerly. Once she's done (with a ''classy'' wipe at her mouth with her sleeve) she passes the bottle to Itsy. "She's right, you know," the apprentice nods to Itsy with a vaguely, 'I-told-you-so' expression at Farideh. "But. Up to you, what we do next." Though she says it ''at'' Drex and Farideh, she's mostly looking at Itsy.

The result of Drex's whispering is a wash of color in Farideh's cheeks, and a guilty glance towards Laine and Itsy. "Don't be ''crude''," she admonishes Itsy, but she's already leaning towards Drex, mindless of their company. "''What'' do you want to do?" While she may ask the question out loud, to the group at large, she, like Laine, is staring up at Drex with a warm expression and a smile.

Drex doesn't seem to know what one ''does'' on a date, let alone on a double date, and so he just kind of looks at Farideh, as presumably the resident expert. Of course, her look is rather distracting, and without much of an apology to Itsy or Laine, he suddenly scoops Farideh up, over his shoulder. It's probably something he's done before, judging by the way he grins all of a sudden and starts to hoof it across the bowl. Date? Politeness? What are those things?!

Itsy will be as crude as she likes; she even seems faintly smug about it, though perhaps that is, in part, due to the fact that Laine is looking at ''her''. Before she has a chance to say anything else, though, Drex has gone and-- and-- Itsy just ''stares''. "Well," she says, dryly amused. "Care for a drink, then?" So much for ''double'' dates. And while she's faintly pink again, that wide mouth is now making a wide, easy smile.

Laine laughs, outright, a bright and ringing chuckle that probably rings across the bowl after Drex-toting-Farideh. "''Yes''," the apprentice breathes happily, "I would ''love'' a drink." And while it's nothing so dramatic as carrying Itsy across the bowl, Laine offers her hand, palm-up, and if the other girl will accept it, she'll tug Itsy along, up across the patio and into the warmth of the Snowasis.

Itsy, turn down an offer like that? No way!
