|log=In the kind of night that encouraged man and 'beast' to stay in and huddle under the covers, Ilicaeth instead curled his neck as much about Alida as he could in his couch, and finally slept after they'd 'communed' for what felt like hours, but actually lasted only a scant double handful of minutes. In his sleep, the sand swept, craggy blue could sometimes forget how complicated his rider could make both their lives, and, though he couldn't imagine ever having chosen anyone else to choose as his partner and confidant... Well, sometimes, Alida was a solid pain in both their asses.

In his dreams, Ilicaeth flew high above his home, the 'Spindles merely points far, far below as he allowed thermals to coax him ever farther above all 'petty' complications, his golden sands glinting and swirling lightly in the crisp sunlight as eye-marked wings stroked the afternoon breeze. He felt unchained, unconquerable, free.

In a twinkling - as dreams are wont to do - the blue dragon was amidst a snarling bevvy of browns and bronzes ranged through the feeding pens, and bellowed his red-eyed defiance of the anger of all the other males as a rather lumpy golden queen surged skyward before all of her chasers. Up he hurled himself - gaining immediate ground before any of the larger challengers - Ilicaeth roaring his continued challenge of the weight of other male minds trying to crush his spirit from the Flight.

It was a fast, nasty, and utterly draining chase that left the lone blue marked by tooth and claw from the others - even the golden female - but he was ultimately the winner. And though their pairing was very brief indeed, as the two were not even a few thousand feet above the ground, the exasperated but doting dam of their brood of 5 eggs welcomed (with Ilicaeth a proud pappa at her side upon the sands) their healthy hatchlings into the world: three greens, one brown...and a lone blue which somehow chose a female human with dark hair and dark eyes. It was only as all their babies left the Sands that Ilicaeth allowed himself a good-natured, if dark chortle and the wickedly satisfying thought of his only blue son, << Give 'er Shells, kid. >>

If the new-born blue was anything like his sire, 'shells' were the least of the new weyrling pair's problems.
