|log=Early morning of day 16, month 7, word began to spread that Elaruth had crept off to the hatching cavern to get on with the business of clutching, accompanied by Mecaith and the Weyrleaders. Rumour had anything from two to twenty eggs now sitting on the Sands, yet nobody but the Weyr’s dragonhealers were permitted to enter the cavern until several hours after Elaruth had finished clutching. The event took its toll on the already considerably weakened queen, but she refused to leave her eggs and required the attention of the dragonhealers once she allowed them close enough.

What those who finally entered the galleries found was a small clutch of eight eggs settled at the opposite end of the Sands to Yshtiath’s already present four, Elaruth curled so as to keep each of them close. It’s known that Fort’s Senior can be an overprotective dam, but her singling out of a particular egg with an odd sheen was a surprise to many. Has Elaruth finally produced a queen for Fort? Will the Weyr still have to seek out a foreign queen? Only time will tell.
