It's the first time she's ever wanted to see him, in this new life of hers. Eire, sure - a few times. Never Kash.

K'del couldn't stop from smiling, as he prepared to go. ''Finally''. He'd been hoping for some attempt at contact for… turns. For as long as he'd known she was there. ''Forever''.

Kastaveth had been unusually communicative, when they arrived, as if he'd completely gotten over his earlier chill.

And then…

In the end, Nakasha needed to be abandoned for the day. After Elleth's flight, there was the drinking, and then the girls R'hin found for them. The blonde was pretty enough: a warm body in the bed beside him, a balm to the heated blood that lurked within him, ruining his ability to think straight, to feel straight, to--

He woke in a foreign bed, the next morning, with a stale taste in his mouth, and a lurking pounding behind his eyes.

Dragon> To K'del, Cadejoth is unwilling to interrupt, but finds it necessary, right now. << Kastaveth's rider has summoned you. He says she's not happy. >>

''Fuck''.

Dragon> To Cadejoth, << I'll be up in a minute. Just… >>

Dragon> To K'del, Cadejoth is amused; his acknowledgement is silent. Carefully silent.

Fifteen minutes later, he was standing on the shore of the Benden Weyr lake, looking at his sister's face directly for the first time in… turns. She'd grown up; so different. So adult. She must be… twenty-eight, now. Her son was most of the way to eleven (don't mention that, he reminded himself. Don't mention him.)

"Kash."

"Kas."

"I didn't--"

"Don't." She gave him a look. "Eire wanted to be with me when I talked to you, but I said no. I needed to do this alone. I ''need'' to."

"It's good to see you, Kash."

"Please don't, Kas. Don't make this into a thing. I still can't-- you know that. I'm not going home."

K'del shook his head, opening his mouth to say something more; she beat him to it.

"We have a daughter. Eire and I. She's nearly six."

"She's--"

"She doesn't have a father, Kas. She ''does not''. She has Eire and I. So don't think for a moment that you can claim her."

It felt like all the breath had left K'del's body; he gasped.

Nakasha gave him a defiant look. "We decided you should know. We're willing to let you see her, Kasadel, but only as her uncle. She's ''mine''."

"And Kasenak?"

She froze. "Don't you dare, K'del. Don't you ''dare''. If you want anything to do with her, you'll follow our rules."

K'del lifted his hands, a gesture of defeat and apology. His head was pounding. He wanted to throw up. "Sorry, Kash."

She just looked at him, withering and dismissive. "Go home, K'del. You can come back when you're not flight-lost, hungover, and stupid. We'll send for you. Unless we come to our senses first."

"Wait-- Kash. What's her name?"

"What?"

"Your daughter."

She flushed. "Erika. Her name's Erika."

Later, he had more drinks with R'hin - commiserations from R'hin. He wasn't even sure how he felt; was he happy? Was he hurt? He had a ''daughter''… a second daughter. A blood daughter he wasn't allowed to claim.

To compliment the non-blood daughter he was.

Oh, ''fuck''.
