Telavi sinks into the swinging chair with a happy sigh, sliding off her sandals and putting her feet up, the better to admire the folds of her light, peachy-pink skirt that flows nearly to crossed knees. "Let's just stay here forever and ever," she says to Alida. "I'm sure the bartender wouldn't kick us out. Was there really summer back at High Reaches, once upon a time, or was that only a taunting dream?"

Given who she is and where she is, Alida can't quite relax like Telavi does, but the bluie makes a decent show of such, sitting back in her own swinging chair, sipping a rather froo-froo drink with parasol, strawberry on the rim, and all. "Won't kick us out if we keep orderin', anyway." Shrug, sip, smile. "It was a lie," the paler-blonde mutters low. "A cruelty that keeps us northerners hangin' on, Turn after Turn, instead uv' headin' south 'n takin' over Fort." It's at this point that one of the other folks at the bar itself starts his inevitable sag towards drunken unconsciousness, the man having very recently stopped feeding bits of leftover jerky (and the occasional peanut) to Pyrite. Alida's green eye lift at her flit's insistent cheep to the sailor, the woman watching how the gold paces up and down in front of the now-passed out guy...still looking for food.

"An awful, awful lie," Telavi repeats like Alida's very own chorus, her gaze lingering now on that drink of Alida's with a hint of smugness; it's cousin to hers, after all, Tela's a sunny yellow with sweet-salt and bits of chopped mint along its edge. "And here I thought it was the earthquakes that was preventing us. No?" Biter's nowhere in sight, or at least, he's not in ''her'' sight, as he's perched atop the high crossbars of Tela's seat, up where it's all shadowy and he can ''lurk''.

"Ya heard about their Barracks cave-in, right?" Alida notes of Fort and its earthquakes, the bluie flicking her gaze over to Telavi for a moment, then returning it to the now drunk-poking flit of her own. "Lay off 'im, dink," the woman notes raspingly around some cold leftovers of a sip of her drink, Pyrite finally giving up and flying back over towards her human. Instead of hanging around Alida, the gold perches beside her brother, and starts puffing herself up some to appear even more 'large' than she already is. A commanding little sound issues from her throat that instructs the bronze to 'Groom me, my good little biyatch.' Snerk. As for other recent business between the humans... "What Wing gotcha'?" She's been too busy with Glacier, and other things in her life to keep up much with her clutchmates, of late.

"Half their weyrlings died or something? ''Ugh.''" Telavi even shudders, sipping her drink for consolation. "How horrible. I'm glad it wasn't us." As Pyrite flits across her field of vision, she glances after her without great interest before looking back at Alida. "Oh. Crevasse," non-existent Crevasse, which is the whole point, "rhymes-with-ass. Is Glacier being good to you?" Biter appears happy to groom Pyrite, but only where 'groom' equates to 'poke at her with his sharp muzzle, because this is his perch.'

"Nah. One died: brownrider." She's not unduly sad, but there's some weight about the often cool woman, perhaps for the loss of a young dragon. "Lot's uv' 'em injured though, includin' their head Weyrlingmaster." A blink for Tela presages Alida's thoughtful, "There's no Cr..." Ah. Yeah, she gets it now. "The nicer ones are the *real* troublemakers." Smirk, sip. *That's* why nobody's chosen Telavi, yet...because obviously, *everyone* enjoys Alida so much that the various Wings were just foaming to snap her up. Yeah. A smooth pair of nods greets the greenie's inquiry. "Yep. Tougher, right now, but I'm the new face." And Glacier's know for giving shit to everyone, including their own. Still, it doesn't appear to faze her. That 'grooming' from the bronze is met with a low little grumble of decided non-appreciation, Pyrite whipping at his haunch with her tail, then insisting he do as he's told, damnit.

There's a squawk from up high, which Telavi also proceeds to ignore. "Only one? I guess that's good, then! Well, not ''good''," she corrects quickly, one pair dying and all, "but better?" Another sip of alcohol, a shallow sip what with making it ''last'', fuels her smirk back to the other rider. "That must be it. Do you know yet how you want to haze the new kids when it's someone else's turn?" Biter finally relents under the gold's mental if not physical push, and makes to mouth at one of her neckridges as though he's been taking lessons from Solith. If she moves quickly and his teeth graze her, that can't be ''his'' fault.

She too ignores the antics of their little blighters up there, since there's not a fight or too rowdy of runnerplay going on. "Makes ya think about the places we all live in...huge caves in stone. Sooner 'r later..." Shrug. It's bound to happen, speaks the bluie's silence. Alida's not bothering to sip shallowly, at this point, but she *is* trying to be careful of garnering a cold headache. A look over at Tela for her next observation has the woman shaking her head briskly, noting low and clipped, "Dun' wanna. Not unless they deserve it, anyway. Bein' new's bitch enough." She ought to know...many times over. Mouthing at a 'ridge isn't quite good enough, but teeth grazing? There's a soft little sound of warning: do it *right*, or else.

"''Thanks'', Alida." Telavi tips back in her seat to stare at the ceiling, which is to say, not the firelizards currently being ignored. "That's right, I'm going to sleep really well tonight. Let's go for 'later.'" She daintily licks the rim, then sips again before glancing quizzically at the bluerider. "Did they not do it in the guards?" Biter, for that noise Pyrite's making, projects a distinct sense of her ''holding still''.

"Bein'..." search for the word, Alida... "cognizant uv' potential dangers helps a person ta' think about what ta' do ta' stop 'em from happenin' *before* they occur. 'R at least how ta enact efficient damage control." Yes, that kind of thought would be typical for her, instead of worry and fear. As for word of her past. A small frown. "Uv' course. Didn' mean it was enjoyable beyond a certain point." Sip. She's a quirky one, still. As far as Pyrite's concerned she *is* holding still, but that tail of hers is readied again, if he doesn't hop to it.

That word gets a dimple from Telavi. "And what exactly have you done to stop it from happening?" she inquires. "Or for damage control, anyway? Do you sleep well at night, Alida?" She ''does'' nod for that 'beyond a certain point.' Satisfied, as yet unbothered by the tail, Biter gets to work. Really, he's suspiciously obedient, if Pyrite is the suspicious type.

"I've thoroughly examined my weyr from stem ta stern, top ta bottom, fer any signs uv failure uv the rock. Nothin'. I also keep alert fer any odd sounds not in keeping with those I've heard since day one in there." Pause, sip. "If i suspected anything - 'r better yet, if Pyrite 'r Ilicaeth suspected somethin' - I'd call on a Miner ta look it over." Logical; so *there*. Nyeh. As for sleeping well, the woman looks a little mixed for a moment, then evening out her expression. "Enough nights," is noted dryly. A long look is offered to Tela once again, this time assessing. "You tryin' ta figure out somethin'?" Apparently *she's* more the suspicious type. The little gold flit, however, is an inexperienced, if mostly benevolent sort, and takes Biter's obedience as her due.

Telavi listens with her head tilted, one whiskey-gold curl fallen loosely over her shoulder, an obscure smile curving her lips as Alida returns to dryness. "Right now," she says, "what I want to 'figure out' is what those failure signs are that you're talking about. It wasn't ever my job before, you know. Tell me?" After that, there might be lighter things to talk about as long as their drinks last, Biter very obliging... until the end where he seeks to ''lick'' down Pyrite's side and, cawing in mischievous delight, disappears into the night.

Smirk. "I asked about 'em, read a few things over at the Miner Hall. Copied a few things down. You want 'em, come over ta my place 'n pen yerself a second copy. I tried ta keep my notes to the point." Of course. Still, just to try to appear conversational, for *once*, Alida categorically lists her various notes, as far as she can remember. If she misses a few things, either Ilicaeth reminds her (since it's been only a couple of days since they were at the Hall), or Tela will have to find out later by visiting her, as she said. As for drinks lasting, well, Alida is 'decent' enough to buy a second round of ones much the same, though she goes for one of those peachy things the greenie had the last time they drank together. And Pyrite? She seems to actually enjoy the lick, the gold looking as confused as a fire lizard can when Biter scraaws and disappears on her. What a flake.
