Dragon> Young though Rasavyth may be, he has an innate sense of timing. The moment was not right for him to approach Rojeth and carefully untangle the web of misunderstandings that caught K'zin in the night. The morning after seems as good a time as any. Though the older bronze may be difficult to find in the infinite space between the minds of dragons, Rasavyth has begun a search with his clever little invisible bugs that shimmer only here and there to give a clue of their presence. The little clickings and soft whirrings of their metallic movements might give them away as they skitter purposefully through the nothingness that exists where there are no minds to take up space. Dragon> To Rasavyth, Rojeth is slippery and while he's not often 'seen' by weyrlings, aside from when necessary, he isn't hiding from their mental contact. Somewhere in the vast world of dragon minds, his fog swamp of crooked branches and eerie silence waits to be found without trouble, even if that finding provides little information as to his actual location. He notices the bugs that have no place in his environment and the clammy mists roll in like the shroud of some premature twilight. He waits, patient.

Dragon> The bugs that ''are'' the ooze that is Rasavyth's primary defining mental presence, know what they've found the moment they find it. Then ''all'' the bugs are coming. They fold into themselves, making themselves a more manageable form, but the expanse of tiny bugs building a larger, greater single bug is an interesting process if one cares to watch them connect themselves and build. Once a whole, they're a little better able to be seen, the outline blurring into the fog of his swamp. It poises at the edge, not meaning to intrude if the mind isn't receptive. But as the mind doesn't seem to mind being found, the bug presses the boarder of the swamp and makes mental contact. As soon as he's done so, the bug disperses suddenly into a reflection of the mist and gloom that pervade the older bronze's mindtouch. << Rojeth, may I speak with you and your I'zech about the events of last night? >> A brief vivid flash of the image from K'zin's point of view, of I'zech's stare and Telavi's curled up body in his lap is provided to clarify just exactly what he means. Dragon> It is probably a fascinating process, if one cared to watch, but there's no sense that Rojeth is paying much attention, just that he's waiting. And his swamp allows no trespassers. << Go on, >> comes the older bronzes' voice, a quiet, rasping seethe of an invitation. (To Rasavyth from Rojeth)

Dragon> That Rasavyth does not trust Rojeth doesn't show one bit in his friendly touch. Friendly despite the reflection of swampy haze. << I gather that your I'zech does not much care what happened that night, but I wish to set the record straight. My K'zin broke no rules. >> The way he says "my" doesn't mean to suggest that Solith's Telavi did either, it's just how he identifies his lifemate. << It was never his intention to do so. He and Solith's Telavi were-- well, victims of poor timing. The thing is not what it seems. >> That seems to be all he wished to give voice to, for the lingering sensation of the oozy mirror of Rojeth's mind holds a sense of one foot out the door, prepared to retreat, once he's sure he's been heard. Dragon> There's little movement in the swamp, in the fog that blankets through the trees and underbrush, just that continued sense of watching. There's surely no sign that he doesn't follow the explanation, the careful wording, the readiness for a hasty retreat. Beats of silence pass, which might convince Rasavyth to withdraw, but before he can, that gravely voice asks, << Why do you tell me, >> us << this? >> (To Rasavyth from Rojeth)

Dragon> To Rojeth, Rasavyth had, indeed, been starting to withdraw, his touch fading, but the question draws him back. << You and your I'zech are-- >> He has to pause to consider carefully his choice of wording and chooses to go with simple, << -one of our teachers. It is possible that your I'zech might like my K'zin more to think him one to tests the rules, but we do not wish false admiration, nor admiration for being anything less than dutiful and exemplary students to all the teachings we are offered. I tell you because false perception does no one any good. >>

Dragon> There is a quiet hiss under Rojeth's words, the fog billowing in more thickly, opaque vapor to obscure the swamp as the lights grow dim and the temperature drops. << Your assumptions are arrogant. The false perceptions are your own. >> He does not withdraw, there's no slipping away of the mist, no fading; he will wait for the bugs to leave. (To Rasavyth from Rojeth)

Dragon> Only, he doesn't leave. << Which? >> He now wants to know. (To Rojeth from Rasavyth)

Dragon> To Rasavyth, Rojeth says nothing, having faith that Rasavyth can figure it out on his own. Or at least, insisting that he try.

Dragon> To Rojeth, Rasavyth seems unbothered by this lack of response, but the sentiments available on the surface of his mind was that he made no assumptions other than that I'zech and Rojeth are supposed to be their teachers. Perhaps there is where he went wrong. In any case, he doesn't linger, serenely withdrawing to place his focus on other things.
