After agreeing to help Mave with her show, E'sren started making plans. The first thing he did, as soon as he got a chance to sit down and write, was send another letter home. In it he outlined what he needed from them, and also made sure to sweeten the deal by mentioning that by coming by the Weyr they would be able to do some business with the folks who lived there.

Sometime during their time together, he told Sabella about how he volunteered her to help, and she punched him square in the arm and said she had enough to do as it was, and he didn't bring it up again. Still, he thought with a vague, fond little smile, and rubbing the bruised spot on his bicep, she might do it. Ever the optimist.

He'd gotten word back quickly, considering, which he should have immediately guessed meant they were closer to his location. The letter was written by his mother, and in it she told him they were coming, they were on their way, and they'd be there soon. ''How'' soon was the surprising part, when word got to him that he had visitors asking for him in the bowl.

His long legs can't get him outside fast enough, and he's still wiping his hands clean of oil as he approaches the little group waiting for him there.
His brother and sister step up first, the former with slow steps that put him back a few paces from the latter, who runs to meet him halfway. Merilyn throws her arms around his neck and he easily sweeps her up into a hug that hauls her off her feet, the two of them grinning. She lets go to turn and include their brother into the fold, and Seamus steps in with his own cool confidence for his turn. E'sren claps him on the back and pulls back to look at his little brother, commenting wryly, "Is that a beard?"

They all three heckle each other for a minute or two, Merilyn about E'sren's haircut, he about her floppy hat, and the brothers about clothes and being generally goofy looking. Their mother approaches during this exchange, her red hair loose and straight, tugged by a breeze as she comes to a stop in front of her eldest son. The three of them trail off, Merilyn and Seamus pull back to give them room and to watch on as their mother and brother look at each other. A long moment passes.

"Hey, Ma." E'sren's smile is quiet and forgiving.

Siobhan returns it with one of her own, apologetic but steadfast. "Hi, son."

There's a lot that can happen with families, subtleties that run deep under the current and ties that bind even deeper. After that exchange, E'sren closes the distance between himself and his mother, who has already started to melt a little if you know what to look for, and folds her up in a hug that she, being shorter than he is, buries herself in.

"I'm glad you're here," he tells her, sharing a knowing look with Seamus over her shoulder.

"Me too, kiddo. Me too."
