| log = Rukbat has passed its zenith, though it is still early enough in the day that several dragons are now slumbering following their midday meal. In the training cavern, a few weyrlings have gathered to begin reorganizing some of the haphazard furniture into configurations more conducive to conversation. D'kan is set at one end of a table, ready to move it. Kazavoth is off to the side, trying desperately to watch, though his lids keep falling shut.

Near-snoozing herself, Cailluneth is positioned beside Kazavoth, sitting pretty on her haunches but afflicted by the sleepies much as her brown clutchbrother is. Her eyes close, she sways slightly to one side, leaning in towards him - then boom! Awake! Only for the cycle to repeat itself. N'ky can't help but laugh at the pair of them as he comes in to help D'kan, slipping his hands under the other end of the table, getting ready to help move it. "Where do you w-want it?"

"Closer to the middle," D'kan answers, further indicating with a nod of his head to the side. "Kinda figured, put the food and stuff in the middle, then people can mill about wherever, you know? Get to the food from all sides." Thinking with his stomach. Of course. "On three. One, two, three--," and lift! The table is solid wood, and therefore heavier than it might appear, but feet begin to shuffle as they begin to move the old, battered thing, likely a wing table in a past life. "I think," D'kan continues, voice slightly strained, "Kaz would've eaten a whole half a herdbeast by himself today, if I'd have let him."

"A half ''herdbeast''?!" N'ky puffs as he lifts and carries, strained by the weight of the table but not overburndened. Once they reach the spot where D'kan wants it, he sets his end down as gently as possible, then leans on it, huffing out a long breath. Winking across at the brownrider-to-be, he quips: "Th-think that's enough for our daily exercise?" Hands then brush down the front of his tunic, and he goes to shove a few of the chairs aside, making more room. "Um... what next, Kae? Wh-what about the food?" Which triggers his memory: "Cailluneth might eat a wherry, b-but not a whole half ''herdbeast''."

It is a spring morning, 10:05 of day 3, month 5, turn 31 of Interval 10.
"Well, I didn't ''let'' him," D'kan answers with a laugh. Once the table is set, he hops up to sit, then lies back, feet dangling over the end. "Nah, the little tables are still left. Some of the chairs, maybe." He laces his fingers over his stomach and stares at the ceiling for a long moment. "Riders or drudges or someone will bring the food. Just getting the rest ready for them. They'r bringing ''wine''. I hope it's a good one."

N'ky finishes shifting about chairs and things to where he thinks they ought to be, then rubs a caressing hand over Cailluneth's headknobs before going to join D'kan, leaning against the table. "I've never been a fan of, um, wine." His nose wrinkles in distaste, and he shrugs. "I've n-never really drunk much of ''anything'', really." Another shrug, and he slips his hands deep into his pockets. "But, um, I'll drink juice. There'll be juice, right?"

Kazavoth is entirely conked out at this point, chin resting on the floor, neck stretched out between his two forelegs. Even his wings are relaxed, finger joints pressing into the floor. He might even be snoring ever so lightly. D'kan is only resting, however. "Yeah, of course. They're not ''forcing'' it on us. I just really enjoy wine with dinner, that's all." He sits up again and swings his feet once before hopping down from the table.

"Cool." N'ky doesn't budge from the table when his fellow weyrling gets down; he hops ''up'', toes stretched down to touch the ground. "Hey, Kae? Um... c-can I ask you something about your f-family?" He swings his legs, just as the older weyrling did before he jumped off, then drags his toes back along the cavern floor to a stop.

D'kan moves away just long enough to get a hand towel good and wet, then he begins wiping down the tables, starting with the big one. He stops mid-motion at N'ky's question and regards him a long moment before he goes back to scrubbing. He's not quite halfway down the table when he shrugs a shoulder. "Yeah, of course. What's up?"

N'ky gets down out of the way of the cleaning. "Oh, do we have to do that, too?" He wrinkles his nose, then mimics D'kan to get his own damp cloth. He starts with the other end of the big table. "Um... do you ''m-miss'' them? Mine... d-didn't come to the Hatching. And, um, I've not seen them since - well, for ''months'', and they've not written, either... but I'm not sure I ''miss'' them. I don't know if that's ''normal''."

"Have to?" D'kan asks, staring down at the towel in his hand. "No, I just... felt like doing it." He shrugs and goes on with the scrubbing. "It's a /party/, after all. Even dockhands know to clean before a party," he finishes with a grin over at N'ky. When the greenrider gets to the family bit, D'kan scrubs on in silence for a while until he's just past the middle of the table, where he stops. "We've been so busy. Seems normal to me."

N'ky keeps going with his scrubbing, concentrating on a spot that seems less shiny? Sticky? Not as clean, for sure, but he's determined to fix that as he scrubs at it, hard. "Don't you think..." He pauses, drawing in a deep breath as he looks up to D'kan briefly, then back down at the spot he's working on, "that we've k-kinda got... um... a ''new'' family? Like... new brothers and sisters. And the ''Weyr''. And Cailluneth and Kazavoth, too?" Satisfied that he's cleaned it as well as he can, N'ky moves along. "M-my parents don't like the Weyr."

D'kan has moved on to wiping down chairs and the like. Some of the nicer ones are clean just from regular use. Some may or may not have held the remains of dead herdbeast since their hatching day. Or maybe the one ''before''. "Seems right to me," he replies while scrubbing at one of the chairs in the latter group. "Shells, this chair reeks." He scrubs his face on his shoulder, then goes right back into the fight. "I think home and family are what you make of them."

With his half of the table finished, N'ky can move off to start helping with the chairs, too. He's not shy about tackling some of the grubbier ones, and throws his back into it, stopping only to go re-wet his towel. "I th-think home is anywhere Cailluneth is, now." Either the ferocity of his scrubbing is the cause of his frown, or the thought of the definition of home having changed so much in the past few months. "I don't know if I could've gone b-back to holder life, i-if Cailluneth hadn't been there for me."

D'kan leans in to sniff the chair he'd been working on, then grimaces. He rinses off the towel and flips the chair over, to find the greasy stain of old meat. "I wasn't going back," he replies quietly, focus apparently on the chair. "Kaz just makes staying that much better." The chair is flipped over again and set aside, then he moves on to the next. "What I ''like'' about the Weyr is that people just let you live. Fuck-ups and all. Never realized until living here a while just how closed and small the Hold was."

"Yeah. That." N'ky seems somewhat glad that D'kan gets what he's thinking, and he smiles and nods his head. "Your f-folks came though, right? To the Hatching? My uncle was here, b-but... well, he's alright." The teen shrugs his shoulders, leaning against the back of one chair while he idly cleans another. "He'll get posted somewhere else, soon."

"They did," D'kan answers, still focusing on the chair at hand, lifting it onto two of its legs for a moment. He's wisened up! Checking under the chair's seats, too. "Blood family doesn't change. No matter what. The other families have to be forged." He sets down the chair and gets to his feet again before finally looking over at N'ky. "Putting your blood, sweat, and tears into something... it changes how you feel about it. Makes you want to strengthen it. Get it right." He glances over at the sleeping Kazavoth and Cailluneth. "That's how I feel about my bond. This group. This Weyr. Kaz just made it that much stronger."

"You m-make sense, D'kan." N'ky nods in agreement with what's been said, rubbing his damp towel one last time over the chair he's currently working on. "I want to get this right. For Cai, if n-no-one else." He shrugs, standing with the cloth pressed to his hip and sighing softly. "Um, hey, Kae? I'm going to to change, b-before everyone comes. Do you h-have this covered?"

There's a first nod from D'kan regarding getting it right, then a second, shorter one before he looks over at N'ky. "Yeah, go on. I think we've done all we can before the rest of the stuff gets here." He waves the fellow weyrling off before going about gathering the cleaning supplies, such as they are, saying that he's going to let someone know they're ready whenever. He pauses briefly near the sleeping dragon duo, then heads out into the rainy bowl.
