|log=It's still early in the afternoon when Akluseth's familiar << Incoming! >> can be heard. Though today it seems to have very little to do with close landings. << Ed's on her way to the office if yours' has a minute sir? >> Edyis's knock on the office door isn't far behind and sounds rather timid despite the warning given by the overenthusiastic brown.

Olveraeth remains, as ever, utterly bemused and perplexed by the appellation of 'sir' (isn't he simply Olveraeth and himself?), but it's a simple thing, and in no way gets in the way of his response: << She can spare a minute or two, >> he agrees. << Perhaps even three or four, if she's lucky. >> Inside the office, Quinlys must have received the warning in time because there's a prompt, "Come in, Edyis," that is followed by the bluerider waving the weyrling to a seat once she has made it inside. "Olveraeth says you needed a minute?"

<< Let's hope for luck then, it was hard enough getting her to the office. >> Akluseth rumbles brightly. Edyis draws a deep breath as she enters. "I need help." Those three words are falling with precision and clarity despite the reluctance of the one speaking. As though waiting for some verdict.

<< It's difficult to offer help to those who do not wish it, >> is Olveraeth's reply to that, which holds no censure - just thoughtfulness. "I know you do," is Quinlys answer, prompt and firm and with as little censure as her dragon has offered. "You're afraid of fire, aren't you."

Edyis nods slowly. Drawing in a deep breath though she fidgets uncomfortably. "Ever since we lost my father." She exhales, "It was manageable, but I'm worried... the last time one got out of hand. when we lost Hraedhyth - Z'kiel had to carry me out of the way, I froze up. Couldn't think, couldn't react. I am afraid that will happen during flaming lessons."

"Do you trust Akluseth?" Quinlys says that, and the stops, shaking her head and waving one hand as if to retcon the entire statement. "T'mic and I have already spoken about it," is what she says, instead. "He wishes to be on hand when you make your first attempt; he hopes that he and Jorrth can help steady you."

"Yes - and no," Edyis admits ruefully anyway, "He's always looked out for me. Faranth knows he's done more for me than I ever knew, but he's also easily distracted." At the mention of the former nanny Edyis smiles, "Akluseth mentioned that Jorrth offered their help, those two work very well together as a team and T'mic is a good leader. If they are willing to help, I certainly can't object." She exhales a moment, adding a an after thought, "We are starting to learn that, that we can't do everything on our own. That part of riding in a weyr means that we have to learn when to ask for help. I know I'm terrible at it."

A nod accepts Edyis' answer, even if it ''wasn't'', in the end, required. Quinlys is silent as she listens, withholding comment right until the end-- at which point her mouth twists into a rueful smile. "Most of us are," is what she says. "It's difficult to acknowledge weakness, or admit to failings. I would ask Roszadyth to be on hand, too, to calm Akluseth should anything upset ''you'', but I understand that's a more difficult relationship. What I ''would'' like is for you to go and talk to a mindhealer. Not," she's quick to add, "because I think you're crazy, but because it can help. We may not be fighting thread; we may not need to flame regularly, but fire is common enough... it would be good, I think, to try and improve this."

"More difficult than I ever imagined." She almost laughs, and there's a nod for Roszadyth too. "I don't mind, I would rather keep things as safe for Akluseth as possible so that if something does happen, he doesn't panic or worse. As for Farideh - I think she's been having a harder time than I have. I screw up, and I only have to worry about disappointing a few people and being labeled a problem child. For her... She has to live with the pressure of the whole weyr. I can't say I've ever met a truly contented goldrider, but then again I have a terribly limited perspective." She tacks on the last ruefully. "You have someone in mind or can I go to one I've seen before?"

"Roszadyth's only young, and I expect not as able to exert her will on others as she will be in a few turns, but I think it could be useful for everyone," is Quinlys' comment, first. Her nod is for much of the rest of what Edyis has to say, silently acknowledging the difficulties High Reaches' newest goldrider faces. "Goldriding is a difficult burden, but I don't believe most are discontent. But-- who can say. If there's someone you've seen before, I'm happy to let that continue, of course. Have you attempted to deal with this issue before, then?"

Edyis nods uncertainly at the goldriding mention, but as for the rest there's an abashed frown. "It was manageable, I drank a little more to get to sleep. Bonfires made me more nervous; but I thought the nightmares had stopped after impressing, but as it turns out Akluseth just dealt with them." Somewhat ashamed is her admission. "I honestly hadn't realized how much of a problem it still was until the Bazaar. Most of the time people are very careful to keep things controlled."

Quinlys' nod is very slow, her expression solemn and, for once, completely without smug or smirk. "All right," she says. "If you can, I'd like you to start seeing that mindhealer as soon as possible; the sooner the better. We can put off Akluseth's first flames a little while-- I'd like T'mic and Jorrth to be comfortable with it ''before'' we start you-- but let's see how things go, all right? The ''last'' thing I want is to cause panic for either of you. So we'll work on it, step by step."

Edyis exhales relieved, and the faintest suggestion of a soft smile starts to work its way into her expression. "Yes Ma'am!" There's a beat, then she adds, "Thank you."

"You're welcome," is prompt and, yes, there's the faintest hint of a smile in ''her'' expression, too. "Have a good afternoon, Edyis. Keep me updated with how things are going."
