"Hmm...? Oh, no. That's Madilla - she's one of the healers."

"Healer! Recruiting the crafters to help out in here now, too, Nanya?"

"I'd recruit them all if they were as good with the kids as she is. But no, I didn't recruit her, Sheile. She just... started showing up."

"Showing up? What do you mean?"

"All I know is that the Weyrwoman kicked little Deverin and I out of the infirmary the other day, and then Marali said she saw Madilla running through the corridors in tears, and the next day, she showed up here in the afternoon and started reading to the kids, and she's been back every day since."

"The Weyrwoman! And you haven't asked?"

"Honestly? She doesn't seem to want to talk to any of us. But the kids love her, so I'm hardly likely to complain."

Both women paused, considering for a moment the young woman and the group of toddlers clustered around her, one curled up securely in her lap. She looked peaceful. Peaceful - but also sad.

"No, I guess you wouldn't. Still. It's a little strange. I wonder what it is she's hiding from."

"Hiding. I hadn't thought of that. It doesn't matter. If it's hiding she's doing, she's welcome to hide here as long as she wants."
