Rasavyth had been bored. He always was when waiting his turn. Not that it wasn't always mildly amusing to watch his classmates try, and fail and fail and try, and succeed, but not always in the traditional manner intended, but he was ''eager'' for this lesson. The joy of flight is something he has felt but the intimacy of sharing that with his K'zin is something he ''wanted''. Badly. So waiting, today, was a chore.

<< Up, up, up they go. >> The bronze's tenor narrates helpfully for K'zin, as so often he does when bored. Narration at least allows for the occasional quip, barb, or joke to be made without it arising from nowhere. Draconic and human eyes followed Sabella and Ghislaith as they became airborne. << And where they stop, no one-- Oh dear me. >> The bronze's sing song was interrupted by his mild dismay. Of all his siblings, for some reason or another he privately preferred the company of Ghislaith. Perhaps it's because she reviled and respected him in just the right amounts. So to see the pair in distress, evoked real emotion (mild concern, but hey, that's more than the others tend to get) from him , an emotion shared in a greatly amplified state by K'zin's concern for the woman.

Time seemed to slow in that way that it does when an accident is occurring. K'zin's thoughts raced, blanketed by the logical response of the bronze: there were too many bodies packed too densely for him to get airborne in time to help. They were helpless. K'zin's mind rambled worst case scenarios in a panic: what if these were the last moments for Sabella. What if he never got the chance to explain or to apologize for avoiding her for these months? What if she died thinking he didn't like her anymore?

It took only a few breaths of these increasingly silly and pointless thoughts for Rasavyth's logic to overcome; they were helpless to stop it, but not helpless to help fix it. As others were doing, K'zin broke into a sprint, out-distancing many of the others to Sabella's side. With Ghislaith's protective pose, the best he could do was skid to a stop before the pair, and look for the Weyrlingmasters. They were there in a blink and taking charge. He saw, in that glance, too, the look of E'sren as he approached. If there was any doubt in his mind that the bluerider had some kind of attachment to Sabs, it was banished by seeing his obvious fear and concern.

<< Want to be a hero, my K'zin? >> Rasavyth's tenor whispered into his mind. << Stop him. Barreling in will only make things worse. >>

With a grimace, he prepared to do just that, providing his strong arms and hard frame to halt his forward progress. A few times, his voice joined E'sren's, whether the bluerider heard it or not: "It'll be okay."

Rasavyth, for his part, was helpful, too, his charming ooze reaching out to the other dragons sharing his unflappable calm in the face of panic. Privately, K'zin knew that his bronze was only calm because it was neither he nor his own rider in pain, but at least he was using his secret callousness for a good cause this time.
