It’s been thirteen turns spent in that wing where she had fit like a glove - where no one really expected much of her other than Taikrin. Where she really belonged.

Mielline rattled her safe haven. Would K’del really tear Glacier apart? Would he ‘’really’’ disband a wing that’s been around for ‘’ages’’?

And if he did, where did that leave the lot of them?

“‘Nother,” she calls out, sitting at the counter of the Greenfields dive bar. Grathon’s serving, as usual, and he’s quickly there to lend a refill to her drink.

“Why the long face?” he asks, stealing a look as he pours. “You’re normally so happy being here, bumming drinks off of me.”

Jo bums the filled glass well with a brief toast. “Been offered a wingsecond position in another wing,” she explains, almost sullen. “My wing might get disbanded. Me’n Taikrin might get hit, but Lanvec wants rank for me.” So. Sip.

“Rank,” Grathon echoes as he puts the bottle down below, “but just not like ‘’this’’?” When there’s no answer, “What does your gut instinct tell you, Jo?” he chooses to ask.

The answer to that comes slow, the convict rider frowning as she contemplates her glass contents. “Take the position’n make it my own,” she’s slow to say. “It satisfies what we need here. It’s the only offer I’m seein’n if it’s true ‘bout Glacier-”

“Then take the position,” it seems to make sense to Grathon as he wipes down his counter. “I know you’re keen on that wing, and Taikrin, but don’t forget why you’re there in the first place. The people there….that Weyr...makes it easy to forget why you’re there.”

Jo could only look at Grathon, nodding, as she takes a drink. Trust Grathon to cut right down to the meat of a dilemma, which was why the bluerider was finding herself relying on his counsel more and more. Finally there’s the glimmers of a lopsided grin from her as she says, “Haven’ forgotten, Grath. I haven’ forgotten.” The next sip is easier.

Unusually, there was a visitor at drills towards the end of Month 10: Jo, blue Tacuseth's rider.

All becomes clear a few days later when, on the second day of month eleven, Mielline makes the announcement before drills that Jo has transferred into Snowdrift and will be serving as Mielline's second Wingsecond, in addition to R'vel. Exactly what her duties will entail will be worked out over time; Mielline's pretty flexible about these things.

In the short term, the focus is on giving Jo exposure to all that the wing does, and bringing her up to speed on different techniques.
