|log=It was the first time Jorrth had ever met his family - if you didn't count whatever he might have felt from them on the hatching sands anyway - so of course, to the blue, nothing had seemed strange or out of place. They all treated T'mic the way he remembered, and had told Jorrth about. They all were the same, except older and grown more. But when T'mic saw J'vain waiting for them, he felt... relieved?

The old bluerider looked him up and down; looked Jorrth up and down; looked at their matching scarves (Tirsa's handiwork, but probably Mirna's idea, or his mother's); and then looked back to T'mic for a long moment.

"Are you ready?"

His mother used to say he wore his heart on his sleeve. Nevermind the sleeve, T'mic knew it was all over his face, all the time. He was glad, then, that it was J'vain with him. He looked at Jorrth, smiled a little. He was tired, but not too bad.

"Yeah."

J'vainw aited longer, double-checking.

"Okay then."

They weren't lost between, but theyd din't celebrate and headbutt and stuff when they got home. Jorrth went straight to their ledge. T'mic thought about curling up, right there, in straps and jacket and scarves, but he found energy enough to hang everything up and start a fire. And then he dropped down onto the floor, on a pillow, with his shoulders propped up against the strone ledge that was his bed.

Jorrth eased in across the weyr, until he could lie next to T'mic, and pushed his big, broad head against his rider. T'mic brought his forehead back to his blue's, and pushed, and breathed.

''The kids.'' T'mic smiled, but still felt tired. Even with Jorrth's enthusiasm.

''Yeah. It was good to see them all.'' And to get to meet little Pati, and hold her while the older ones climbed all over Jorrth, along with uncle Romin. It was good, and it was strange.

T'mic closed his eyes. ''I would've gone back there, you know. It would have been home.'' If it hadn't been for Jorrth.

Jorrth thought about that, and pushed his head against his rider's some more.

''With a wife, and kids, and everyone all around and close, all the time. And a little house.'' But he hadn't wanted Jorrth to die.

<< I didn't want that, either, >> said Jorrth.

T'mic laughed, and wrapped his arms around his blue's head, and massive neck. A few months ago, that would've pulled Jorrth right up against T'mic's chest. Now, T'mic pulled himself up off the floor a bit.

"I love you more than anything, Jorrth." He had to say it.

"I'm still sad, though," he realised. Even if he didn't know why, even if he wouldn't change anything. He'd tried not to think about it, since they'd been having all this extra time. But it kept on being there, anyway.

<< That's okay, >> said Jorrth.

T'mic curled his fingers, uncurled them, and curled them up again against Jorrth's soft hide. ''Okay.''

And even though he was glad to be back home, in the Weyr, in their weyr, even with Jorrth right there, he mourned. But Jorrth understood. And everything was okay.
