He’d made some excuse to go right to his weyr after they’d left that bar. The knuckles of his right hand were burning; he could feel the sting across the top of them. Tsanth was relaxed, idling out on their ledge to watch the snow drift down into the bowl. He wished he could feel that level of calm, but instead his insides were tight, coiled and filled with nerves.

It was the expression on S’varis’ face, the way he’d say it, the way it had rang true in more ways than just the literal. That flush of hot creeping shame inched its way back to him again, bringing a touch of color to his face. He pulled a bottle down from one of the shelves and unscrewed the cap. He’d hit him because he didn’t like what he'd heard, because it wasn’t going the way he’d expected it to. Because he didn’t ''want'' to be like the Wingsecond.

There was some small consolation in that, perhaps. He took the bottle and slipped onto the edge with his lifemate, sinking down against his warm side and stretching his legs out on the cold stone. It might feel better to just stop for a few minutes.
