|log=It was after the fourth time that Farideh read over the letter she had received from Drex, soaking up the words with the same dissatisfied air as the times before, that she finally tossed it aside in irritation.

She ‘’knew’’ what she had agreed to. She knew he would always choose his ship, his crew, ‘’Itsy’’, but that didn’t make it any less of a sore spot. And she’d ‘’tried’’ to convince him to come back, except exploiting his jealousy hadn’t been enough.

Was it ‘’so’’ bad at the Weyr? Was it ‘’so’’ bad with her?

She thought. She wrote. She crumpled up numerous pieces of paper and tossed them out, one idea after the other.

Then, she had a thought--

Roszadyth never interjected, never ‘’argued’’, but she was ‘’there’’, with her disapproval, in the background. It was enough to make her feel embarrassed.

So she tossed that idea too.

And came back to the next day.

She paced her weyr. She started letters and ripped them to shreds.

It came down to how much she wanted it, and she wanted it pretty badly. Enough so that one lie-- one tiny little-- fine, ‘’big’’ lie-- took precedence over telling the truth.

Surprisingly, writing the letter, once she set her mind to it, was painless. Her hands shook a little when she wrote, but then it was over and she was sealing the missive with a wax stamp. Another two days went by before she got the gumption to pass the letter to someone who could see it safely delivered.

Finally, it was out of her hands.

She hoped for the best.
