For some strange reason, Peirith won’t ignore biological reality and wait another six months to lay her eggs when it’s good and cold outside and an oven would be welcome. No, instead she’ll start clutching just after midnight on day 25 of month 6, turn 20, but at least she won’t demand the whole Weyr watch!

Once all the sweating and shoving is done, and the clutch of thirteen is resting comfortably beneath its dam’s wing and in its sire’s care, only then will anyone but their riders be allowed into the galleries so that the official gawking may begin. If it’s fewer eggs than the clutch Zaiventh sired (and with no obvious gold in the mix, although it’s said gold eggs often aren’t all that easy to tell ahead of time), at least Mecaith’s are arranged in pretty patterns…

Now, who will be the first candidate searched? Will the wedding at Fort Sea be raided? And does the Weyrwoman only look wan because of the heat?
