The rest of the bowl may be barren, grass barely surviving at best, but
here by the lake, it's brilliantly green in the warmer months: thickening
and thriving in the silty, boulder-dotted soil just before it transitions
to soft sand and thence to the cool, clear water itself.

A large freshwater lake fed by a low waterfall, it not only provides
warm-weather bathing space for humans and dragons, but has one end fenced
off as a watering hole for the livestock in the feeding grounds. The water
there is often muddier than the rest of the clear lake, whose shallows
drop off abruptly several yards out into deep water, and whose edge
undulates against the coarse-hewn bowl wall: here close enough to just be
bramble-covered rocks, there far enough away that a narrow land bridge
divides the main lake from a smallish pond. Between are several rocky
outcroppings that form excellent makeshift diving points, though only one
-- across the bridge -- has a set of narrow, slippery, quite possibly
tempting stairs.

Heavy, driving rain makes everything a wet and muddy mess today.

|log=These days Edyis is a frequent sight around the lakeshore, often taking her meals to eat at the shoreline while Akluseth plays in the water. Tonight is no exception, the weyrling perched atop a boulder, and the remnants of a food wrapper sitting on the stone next to her. The brown seems to be amusing himself by chasing minnows through the water, trilling contentedly on the rare moments of success.

While Edyis might be a frequent sight around the lake shore, R'hin has rarely been -- or if he has, it's been during weyrling lessons, or when they've been sleeping. Perhaps it's a coincidence that, as the weyrling dragons pass their four week mark, the bronzerider's been seen... now and then, happening to run during bathing time, or taking a stroll with someone. It's late for running, but that's never stopped him before, visible as he follows the curve of the lake, which will take him inevitably past the rocks.

Ink-dark eyes catch movement in the periphery and as her gaze shifts to the runner her expression slips into something undefinable. Instead of calling out, she waits, observing. Her weight shifted just so that she can slip off the rock in an instant or two but not quite ready to spring into action. Akluseth seems oblivious to the changes in her demeanor, or at least the minnows are far more interesting to him.

Since the path takes him past the weyrling, it's hard to tell if this was R'hin's intended direction or not. He does, at least, slow as he approaches, down to a walk by the time he comes into speaking distance. Pale blue eyes take in her demeanor -- undoubtedly noting that readiness -- with a wordless tip of head, as he lifts a foot up, resting it on one of the lower rocks near Edyis, and bending in to stretch.

Hesitation flickers across her features for an instant, studying how well he's managed to ''recover'' from the last time she laid eyes on the bronze rider. "Well, at least you no longer look like an overcooked egg." She supplies cheerfully though whether it is genuine cheer may be difficult to tell.

The cheerful tone earns a rather bland look from R'hin in turn. "And no one's throttled you yet, so good on both of us," comes the Wingleader's retort, as he eases his weight back, stands for a moment, then swaps to stretch out the other leg.

"Seems like it will only be a matter of time." She quips in response. "Unless you mean to say you believe I need a throttling." Tilting her head, with a deep sigh before slipping off the rock before joining along in the stretching. "I live to disappoint it seems."

The curious tip of R'hin's head, and the gleam of pale eyes as he glances at her after that latter comment seems to be invitation for her to elaborate.

"What, Telavi hasn't been tattling?" Is her bland response, as she shifts to stretch the other leg. "I got the impression you were not precisely thrilled with my choice to stand. I can't imagine impressing would have made you too happy either." She offers with a shrug. "I did try to make up for whatever you lost in bets."

"I didn't bet," R'hin replies easily, waving off her talk of ''making it up'' with something of an irritated air. "And no, I don't have Telavi spy on you. Is that what you really think of me?" There's other thoughts there to be tackled, but that seems enough for now, as he stands straight, pale gaze fully on the weyrling.

"Who said anything about her spying ''for'' you. I get the general impression that she is nosy on her own." Edyis chuckles regaining some genuine humor in her tone. "You don't want to know what I really think of you." She answers finally, standing a little straighter under scrutiny. "I am glad you are back though."

"She may well be, but none of that is ''my'' influence. More a natural inclination," R'hin says. With a twitch of lips. "No?" with a slight weight, "Or is it that ''you'' don't want me to know what you really think of me?"

"Why would I care if you knew what I thought of you?" She replies shrugging off the question, "I'm sure the all-knowing leader of Savannah has mind reading at the top of his list of skills." She continues her stretching, arms and shoulders now, which might draw attention to the pattern of darker lines on the back of her shoulder just hinted at through the fabric.

"No," R'hin says, simply, for the latter. If he notices the marks on her shoulder it doesn't show in even gaze, as he runs a hand through his hair. "When he starts to fly," it's the bronzerider's first reference to her dragon, with a tip of head towards the water, "You can claim your rum back."

"Pity." Is all she has in response to his no, "I suppose someday we can trade theories." It's the second that has her utterly confused. "Claim my rum back?" Her dark eyes are shifting to the Brown playing in the water. "What point would there be in that?"

"For your own weyr." As if that should be obvious.

"Oh, no need for that." She waves it off. "Besides, you'll be able to put it to better use than I will." Since he has the better connections seems to be the implication. "Isn't as though I'll have any shortage of it, turns out good rum can be quite profitable." Setting off then at a slight jog, which draws the brown's attention.

If there is a reaction to that, it's not apparent since she's jogging off. R'hin lingers for a moment or two to watch her after the abrupt departure, before he heads towards the bowl, and presumably the baths beyond.
