| log = Teisyth has the great (mis)fortune in life of looking ''unique''. Dragon-y, sure, but still. Her build and tail and all, it's pretty uncommon. So even with Jadzia having seen her only the once and in the dimness of evening, it's not difficult to identify her up on the fireheights in the place the watch dragon is meant to occupy. Being on duty, as they are, it's also not terribly difficult to track down G'laer at this moment as there's nothing needing to be done by the watchrider himself, so he's where he ought to be, occupying a small desk in one of the higher reaches of the Hold.

Will Teisyth warn G'laer that Jadzia is coming? Does she need to? She's pretty harmless, after all, and there's nothing threatening about the way she ascends the fireheights. She doesn't even look like she's been drinking. Which actually might be cause for concern, depending. Whatever the case, her voice is neutral when she appears and says, "G'laer. Are you busy?"

A better question is would Teisyth think to warn Jadzia even if she wasn't too distracted to see her coming? Teisyth is a terrible watchdragon, unless threats to the Hold include the grubs that happen across her path. ''For once'', G'laer does look surprised to see her. It's quite likely that after two successive awful meetings, he was quite certain he'd never see her again. The expression is gone as quickly as it came. "I'm not. It's been a quiet shift."

Jadzia's expression is all cool neutrality. But that's probably better than outright hatred, if the greenrider cares about these things. She approaches the desk, hands in the pockets of her jacket. "Good. I have a proposition to make. Except you're just going to say yes." So it's more like a demand, really. She waits for the yes without telling him what the proposition ''is''.

It may come as a shock to everyone that G'laer, too, hasn't been drinking. That means there's ''zero chance'' of her hearing the word she wants. "No," is what she gets instead, and one of his best stern looks.

The neutral fades into something less so. Guess what? It's not ''happy''. "You ''owe'' me." Jadzia is glaring back at his damnable sternness. But she's not swearing yet. That ought to count for something.

"I owe you." G'laer clearly doesn't believe that's the case. He rises from behind the desk now and moves around in front of it to lean his rump against it. "How do you figure?" At least he's apparently willing to entertain her case.

Jadzia holds up a finger. "You get me kicked out of the guard." Another finger. "You stomp back into my life over a stupid picture." Another finger. "Your dick is apparently too fucking amazing to bother with me." Last finger. "You told me you ''loved'' me. What the fuck." So much for not swearing. So, she repeats, "You owe me." But she adds, "If you give me what I want, I'll make it worth your while." It doesn't even sound suggestive.

The edges of G'laer's straight lips twitch like they might like to dip down but are being restrained. He doesn't answer the charges laid at his feet just yet. Instead, calmly and coolly he inquires, "And what is it you want?"

"There are eggs. I know the Weyr is Searching. Search me." That's all that Jadzia wants. See how it doesn't include G'laer's stupid pants?

Twice now. ''Twice'', he looks surprised. "''Search'' you?" G'laer blinks at her as his expression recovers. "You want to be a dragonrider?"

"Since when do you care about what I want?" Jadzia snaps back. "I didn't ask you to ask questions. Just Search me. Search me and you'll never have to deal with me again. We can just pretend we don't know each other. Or that we don't even exist." Which is apparently something she assumes he'd like for his end of the arrangement.

"No." G'laer's good at using that word ''just'' when it isn't wanted. "Search is not something to be taken lightly." If only she knew how hypocritical it is of him to say so. "If you want me to present you as a candidate for the clutch, I want to know why."

Her jaw is tense. It's a good thing she's unlikely to break her own teeth or she might be at risk. "Why do you always have to make everything so sharding difficult! Maybe I just want to Impress some big ass gold dragon and become Weyrwoman and send your sharding ass ''between''." Weyrwomen can do that, right?

G'laer doesn't rise to this. He simply looks at her and waits. She'll get around to the truth or something convincing or she won't. He has time. It's been a quiet shift.

"You're an asshole." Jadzia needs to get that out there even if it could, theoretically, put her chances of an agreement at risk. Worth it. "Fine, I want to be a dragonrider. I want the ''chance'' to be a dragonrider."

To prove the first point, that's not all. "Why?"

"Does it ''matter'' why? Why did ''you'' become a dragonrider?" Jadzia apparently isn't actually asking him, just pointing out that ''he'' did it. So she can, too. "I want out of here. I want someone to, maybe just fucking ''once'', give a shit about ''me''." Is that even relevant? She seems to think so.

"''I'' give a shit about you. More than one even." G'laer's baritone has a touch of heat to it. Then he's turning away from her to walk around the desk. "Pack your things."

Jadzia doesn't respond to the heat in his voice. Or those words that he says. It's only the last she acknowledges. "Right now?" She doesn't say it like she's surprised or unsure. She just wants the clarification.

"That's the way Search works. I've two hours before the end of my shift, roughly. Can you be ready by then?" G'laer answers, tone now as bland as ever. He resumes his seat and glances back to the papers on the desk.

"Yes, sir." Her tone matches his, though not disrespectfully so. Jadzia told him what she'd give him if he agreed and it apparently starts now. Except she adds before turning away, "Thank you."

It's possibly the first time in G'laer's life that he's had the impulse to correct someone calling him sir when position dictates otherwise. He resists the urge though, instead simply nodding. Then he looks up, "We believe you'll make a good rider, for whatever it's worth. Gold, or otherwise." That's almost certainly a compliment if she chooses to take it as such.

Jadzia pauses in her steps to turn away. For a moment she looks like she might look back at him or say something. But, in the end, she only walks on. She has packing to do.
