''Tucked off the back of the training room, the barracks are a huge, high cavern that stretches far back into the stone of the Weyr. Both of the longer walls are lined with couches for the dragons, enough for a couple of Pass-sized clutches at once, each matched with a cot and press for the weyrling dragonrider. In this day and age, however, the couches in the back have been allowed to grow dusty with long disuse. Hearths are spaced between every few couches to heat the big room.

''For decoration, there are a number of tapestries on the walls, looking almost as beat-up as the couches out in the training room, but scattered flower pots with their bright blooming contents provide a cheery touch. Additionally, some of the couches have had graffiti scratched into them over the Turns that were never quite cleaned off: smears of chalk messages or even rough pictures, some not fit for young eyes. In many cases names and dates have been painstakingly carved into the rock, a record of those that once made their home here.

It's the stuff of some people's nightmares, but the weyrling sitting in the chair in front of Telavi seems happy enough, her head tilted back and the greenrider's shears snip-snipping as they chatter. Ordinarily it might be done in the training cavern, but that's ''busy'' just now, with ''remedial studies''. At least the work's being done in the more disused part of the barracks, a sheet beneath them to catch the trimmings. "Almost done!" says said greenrider, brightly.

Sleep-deprived, with dark circles under his eyes, G'laer might be the stuff of some people's nightmares. "Ma'am," he arrives silently behind Telavi.

''And'', that last snip came way too close to the weyrling's ear, with ''both'' of them having started like that. "It's fine, it's fine, no blood," Telavi assures the girl, and even offers her the braid by way of keepsake; to G'laer, brows down before she gets them to lift again, "What do you need?" A top-off?

"Help." G'laer's answer comes in a grunt, glancing back over his shoulder to where Teisyth waits some feet behind. When he turns his head back, she inches closer.

"Hm?" Telavi turns, blades closed and down; the girl scoots off. ''She''-- Tela-- eyes Teisyth too.

"Ma'am," G'laer begins, jaw tight, "I need sleep; she's barely slept in three days." And the evidence is in the obvious dark circles, and a subtle dishevelment to his usually orderly appearance.

"I do remember those days," Tela murmurs, not devoid of sympathy, but there's a brightness that hasn't left her gaze. "Are you ready for us to ask Olveraeth to ease her? Or one of the queens, if that's what it takes--" if he's ready to be known for that.

Iiiinch goes the Teisyth. G'laer, oblivious, explains, "She's not uneasy, just has too damn much energy."

Tela waves a hand rather than argue shades of meaning-- but that word from ''him'' lifts a brow where it mightn't from others more prone to such language. "A nursery-minder, then?"

Teisyth, silent, stretches high behind G'laer, wings unfurling slooowly, so G'laer has some at the waist from Tela's perspective. G'laer might not be serious when he asks, "Can they ''give'' dragons fellis?"

There's a moment where, were he one of the kids or perhaps if Tela's mouth weren't starting to curve just a bit at those ''wings'', she might have gone into usage of ''can'' versus ''good idea''. But instead, brightly, "Imagine how much the Weyr would go through if we ''could''. I could recommend a dragon or two to try and wear her out..."

"I'm not sure that's even possible; I've been trying." G'laer sighs, reaching a hand to scrub across his darkened eyes, unaware, still, of the now full set of wings he's sprouted.

"You have the handicap at being joined at the--" Telavi cocks her head. There's a moment, longer than with some, after which Solith flicks the image to Teisyth so ''she'' can see.

Well, that spoils it! G'laer was just saying, "Hip?" when Teisyth broke into her draconic giggling wuffles behind him, which loses him the wings, and has the rider turning about. "What-?"

Tela would have a hard time not smiling at Teisyth if she tried; she doesn't. "She-- sorry. I just asked Solith to ask Teisyth to show you," the elder green ''also'' entertained. "Do you see?"

"I do." G'laer is not entertained.

One last look at Teisyth, then it's-- mostly-- just her rider that Telavi considers. "At this point-- I was going to ask about the hot pool, but let's try Olly." She nods decisively. Olveraeth, last best chance for sleep.

G'laer grunts as he frowns down at the guffawing green. "Better than nothing," he decides before a salute of farewell, "Ma'am."
