| log = With their riders successfully distracted in doing something useless (today it was climbing the side of a mountain, one they would only have to come back down or require ''rescue'' from atop it), Rasavyth seized the opportunity to enact his plan. He knew it was inevitable that K'zin would want to bring Telavi somewhere in southern away from all the people and the noise and the politics, and just be ''them''. Squishy, ''awful'' them. Suffice to say, Rasavyth didn't approve, but K'zin with his ''emotions''-- ugh, not his first choice for a battle with his brawn. So, ''for now'', he'd let it go on. This was his chance. His chance to ''show off''.

Truthfully, Rasavyth wasn't much of a show off. After all, to show off one's abilities was to make known that which might be most useful contributing to the perception one would like to convey. In Rasavyth's case that perception was 'non-threatening', not a bronze any other bronze would need to worry over in a mating flight. In at least that way, all his immeasurably frustrating issues with hunting had been helpful.

But he had been ''practicing''. Cutting short lessons for K'zin or outings so he could go off on his own. He found it ''easier'' that way. K'zin ''could'' listen in if he wanted to, but he generally didn't think to. And if he noticed Rasavyth was becoming better fed and needed fewer trips to the feeding pens, well, he hadn't mentioned, which almost guaranteed he hadn't noticed.

So now, the plan is in motion. From where he is crouched, he queries of his green companion, << Did you see that? >> Sudden, ''excited''. << ''There''! In the trees! >> And he takes to wing. Is there something there to be seen? Most likely not, but hopefully, the ''hunt'' is on. He lets the sensation of that primal act seep through his ooze, to Solith's incorporeal mind.

See something? What?! Solith ''can'' stay focused at times, really she can, but just now that big rough rock she's been sharpening her claws on ''just doesn't seem so interesting'' as she abandons it to whirl, look, and leap-- though, thanks to the flexibility of dragon necks as well as natural excitement, or maybe that's trust in Rasavyth, not necessarily in that order. Up! Up! Then she's trumpeting at the trees, the better to scatter whatever might be dwelling within them. << I saw it move! >> Unless it was just the wind. Or her breath. Or her imagination. Or...!

As Solith bugles, something ''does'' actually move. The odds were in their favor to begin with. Rasavyth doesn't try to battle the trees, though he does swoop lower to let the powerful rush of air from his wings shake the branches of the trees, contributing to the efforts to flush whatever it is out. There's a blur of motion, and whatever it is, and its friends break the treeline into the meadow in their panic and confusion. The slender bronze tips a wing and dives. His hunting method is ''not'' graceful. In fact, it looks like he's aiming to just squish the prey between body and ground, though he pulls up at the last moment and snatches it in a hind leg instead. It even ends in a little tumble to the ground which surely eliminates the possibility of a humane kill since something probably broke on impact, but he ''has'' a wherry all his own! Graceless, but ''effective''. And effective is what matters now. Grace can come with ''even more'' practice.

Solith was supposed to be watching, wasn't she? Except that she missed the memo, being far too thrilled with stealing away one of his wherry's friends-brothers-cousins with a sudden dart-snatch-''shake'' that breaks the creature's neck and lets her, with a fierce backwinging hover, feast while still aloft. She ''is'' fast enough at it that she catches the tail end of his kill, visually at least, noting it with bright, pleased eyes. If there's no grander outpouring of praise and admiration, it's not to deprive him, but rather a matter of having more confidence in Rasavyth's ''getting it'' than otherwise-- and, well, it's just not as ''effective'' to bugle through entrails.
