| log = The last time he'd been that angry, Aseana's father got the limp that he'll have until the end of his days. He'd been young and brash then, but maybe he hadn't learned anything since.

He could feel Teisyth nosing around the memory, curious in her sweet, innocent way that holds no guile. That never ceased to amaze him. He found her precious, even ''rare'' for the quality. Inconvenient, sometimes, it's true, but he loved her better for it. He let her have it, opening that part of his mind to her, that she might understand.

Even in memory the events happened too fast; so fast that Teisyth had to watch it three times before she thought she caught the important parts. Aseana arguing with her father about her handfasting to then-Gallagher. Gallagher standing there, growing angrier and angrier, but keeping it under the mask his training taught him; Aseana's father was a Cromese holder, after all, and he was just a lowly guard barely out of training. But then he struck her. Her ''own father''. And her crime had been loving him. The snap was instantaneous, both Gallagher's mental control and her father's knee. He didn't even recognize that they were ''Aseana's'' arms and cries, trying to pull him off.

Her father kept his distance after that. It made G'laer sick all over again to remember that when he finally did leave, ''that'' was the man he left her to. Nothing he could ever do could ever make up for that. Knowing that's the man that helped raise his children… he didn't blame them a bit for hating him.

It was true that Leara didn't hate him ''as much''. She wanted a father more than Gaelan did. He didn't like to imagine the kind of father figures they'd known at One Rock. Better to focus the kind of anger that produced on a safer target.

It wasn't that this ''H'vier'' didn't get a fair share of G'laer's fury on his own; he'd've killed him just for laying a finger on Oliwer let alone the whole fist he assumed had met his weyrmate's face. But now he's promised. No killing. But he could still make him a vegetable.

Dragon> ''G'laer''! The rebuke wasn't verbal from the green as her annoyance whipped him once as effectively as if she'd done it with the hook of her tail. That wasn't the spirit of the promise he'd made Oliwer and they both knew it.

That made his annoyance serge and he might've risen and done something about it by taking her ''favorite pillow away''. But his arm was under his weyrmate, and to move now might wake him; after the day Oliwer had had, he deserved to sleep. So he made a promise to himself to get her later. Even if getting her later would only involve throwing a mud ball at her, which he knew she'd like too much anyway. Maybe he'd make her go spend time with Lythronath. Lythronath, with whom she'd been uncomfortable since the flight. She didn't remember the reason, it just ''felt different''. It made her uneasy and sad and frustrated all at once.

Dragon> << Please don't, >> meant Teisyth was still peeking into his private thoughts. That would earn her another mud ball. She couldn't have heard it all, but thinking about feelings always came across stronger to the green than other things. And her meekness wasn't something he could easily refuse. Maybe it would have been different if he if hadn't fallen in love with her in spite of all his very best efforts ''not to''.

Dragon> ''I won't.'' He promised with a thought, not a word.

Dragon> << Good. I'd be sad. >>

Dragon> << An' you don't like it when I'm sad. >> It's said proudly; it did take a lot of work on her part to get to this point with her ornery lifemate.

Dragon> ''I know.'' This time, with the sigh of one much put upon. But that was out loud and it made Oliwer move in his sleep.

Sleep. Sleep would be nice. There'd be more time for planning in the days and sevens to come. Time to figure out just what to do about H'vier. Time while he did his homework. So he shifted to hold Oliwer a little more protectively; he hoped that would help ease the worry he'd no doubt inflicted. If only Oliwer's memory was as short as Teisyth's…
