The exterior curtain shields the pair of dragon wallows from the elements,
but it's really after the interior curtain set just behind them that
things become more human-friendly. The entryway narrows to what would
still be wide by people standards, but narrow enough to disabuse any
dragon of the notion of trying to fit inside, then the cavern bubbles open
into a fairly massive main cavern. Almost opposite the entrance is a pair
of doors nearly side-by-side leading to back rooms, but in between there's
''space''.

Spacious might be an understatement here. To the right of the entrance the
curved wall provides space for a very large table whose matching chairs
can seat up to twelve. It's reminiscent of the council chambers, really.
On the wide, wide wall behind the table a detailed mural has been painted
with great attention to detail. The Red Star looms above, Thread laces
silvery grey through a blue sky and as duty dictates, dragonriders rise to
meet the menace, flame licking from the mouths of every color (save gold,
though they're there, low in the sky in their traditional place) in the
neat and readily identified patterns familiar to all fighting wings.

A map of High Reaches sweep and the Weyr's badge get a close-up on a mural
to the immediate left of the entrance. A broad hearth interrupts and
separates the second half of the expansive curved wall from the first, and
the latter shows the greatest display of artistry in a mural of a hazy
night sky dotted with stars. Closer inspection might lead one to find that
the stars might be used as hand-holds if one were inclined to climb.
| log = When Telavi arrives at the weyr, late, no doubt the expectation is to come in and go to bed. But K'zin is in his so well worn pajama pants, leaning back in a chair at the table, his ankles on the corner of the table, with a glass of whiskey in hand. There's the open bottle near him, and then ''two'', readily recognizable as Quinlys' favorite brand on the table some ways back. His eyes pull slowly away from the bottles to his girlfriend at the sound of her entrance, a grimace on his lips; life would be easier without the need for repeated confessions, but probably K'zin knows better than to put Telavi ''and'' Quinlys in the same room for ''this one''.

''Whiskey''. Tela doesn't so much skip a step as have her foot slide nearly to a stop, her brows winging momentarily upward to match; with her jacket hanging back with her other outer gear, she rubs her arms against residual cold. Then, with barely a glance towards the bedroom, she heads resolutely towards K'zin to kiss him-- though her lips aren't exactly open-- and afterwards lean on the edge of the table by his feet. "What happened?" she wonders. Telavi, using her words.

"Well, that's better than 'what did you do,'" K'zin decides, gingerly leaning to set his glass on the table and settle his feet on the floor after the greeting pleasantries are done, with a little extra feeling. His smile is wan, and only there a moment before his whiskey-hand scrubs over his face. "I botched my first lecture." The lecture. She must know the one. "C'ris had to play hero."

If his feet are going to go down, she's going to round the corner towards him and lean there, instead. "'C'ris.' 'My hero.' It doesn't have a ring to it," Tela says; her expression softens, looking at him, and she'd ''just'' leaned but now she's easing another step closer. "At least... it's not flaming this time?"

"Mm, less painful, certainly, at least to my pride," K'zin answers with a sober frustration. "I suggested Yesia find someone to try things out with before Aeaeth rises, of both genders. She somehow thought I would be--" He makes a noise that's annoyed and defeated all at once. "Maybe I ''should'' sharding well weyrmate you and get us both big, chunky rings that no one can miss, not least of all wayward redheaded weyrlings." Being a redhead is clearly a critical factor here.

Up go Tela's brows. Up up up, the weyrling's name repeated with more sibilance than it can possibly survive. "She ''what?''" It's not even loud; what it is, is betrayed. She's up on her toes now, starting a step for the ledge that becomes a swing back around. "That's romantic," she says, nose wrinkling. "Seriously," except not at all, "just write 'Property of Telavi' on your forehead. ''He'' can have the chin. Except that would spoil the line of your hat, so don't." If only her hair were down, she could toss it. "Yesia. ''Ugh.''"

"As romantic as my last proposal." The one that was 'so you don't want to get weyrmated, ''right''?'. K'zin gets out of his chair looking wearied. Perhaps its the humor that struck the wrong chord with him, for he's not looking to argue or even ''talk'' more. "I'm going to bed." She can join him if she likes, or not. After the night he's had, he probably just doesn't have the energy to deal with this. Clearly, K'zin is getting <strike>gasp!</strike>, ''old.''

He actually remembers? Startled, Tela looks at him with widened eyes; "But--" He's standing; and that ''weariness'', and what he ''doesn't'' do-- "I'm sorry," she says immediately, without even biting her lip. Without even placating, just ''open''. "You didn't need that." From her; from Yesia too, but she isn't so important right now.

K'zin pauses in his path to glance back at Telavi. He manages a slightly wan but still rueful smile and a roll of his shoulders. These things happen. He takes more steps toward the bedroom, but his voice rises, to offer back the wry delivery of an attempt at humor, "I guess I should just be grateful I still got 'it.'"

"And then some," Telavi assures, with a bit of a smile if not a dimple; she exhales the rest of the way, very quietly. Soon she'll join him... and the bottle will have been closed, and she'll taste of whiskey too.
