The rest of the bowl may be barren, grass barely surviving at best, but
here by the lake, it's brilliantly green in the warmer months: thickening
and thriving in the silty, boulder-dotted soil just before it transitions
to soft sand and thence to the cool, clear water itself.

A large freshwater lake fed by a low waterfall, it not only provides
warm-weather bathing space for humans and dragons, but has one end fenced
off as a watering hole for the livestock in the feeding grounds. The water
there is often muddier than the rest of the clear lake, whose shallows
drop off abruptly several yards out into deep water, and whose edge
undulates against the coarse-hewn bowl wall: here close enough to just be
bramble-covered rocks, there far enough away that a narrow land bridge
divides the main lake from a smallish pond. Between are several rocky
outcroppings that form excellent makeshift diving points, though only one
-- across the bridge -- has a set of narrow, slippery, quite possibly
tempting stairs.

|log=The fog of the previous day persists into the next, clinging densely even by late morning when R'hin arrives at the frozen lake's edge. He's rugged up against the cold, using his usual rock to stretch out while he waits for the arrival of his running partner.
Edyis is dressed for running, with only small concessions made for the chilly weather. She's jogging her way to the lakeshore where she spots R'hin stretching. "I did offer to go someplace warmer if you couldn't handle the weather." Watching the familiar series of stretches with a grin.

"Could say the same of you," R'hin counters, with a flippant gesture towards her, "Is that a ''scarf'' I see? Maybe some gloves? That's very weak of you, being Nabolese born and bred. Life down Monaco way softened you up," he's grinning as he teases, and when she nears him, he starts with an easy pace, as usual.

"Now I wonder, who could be to blame for that?" Maybe the man who convinced her to flee south? Still she's laughing, "I ''am'' overdue a trip to visit some dear old friends that way. I think sometime in the next sevenday or so? I wondered if I should bring you back a souvenir? Perhaps some of that rum you fondled so affectionately." At being called soft, she matches his strides, "Let's see if you call me soft when you are panting and out of breath old man."

"I don't know, who?" R'hin's playing dumb as far as that goes. "You seem like a smart girl. A girl of her own agency and interests and mind," he's ''grinning'' at her as he says that. "Mm," he replies, as he picks up the pace to something a little faster, "I wouldn't object. My drinks cabinet stock keeps mysteriously getting lower."

"Mm, I seem to recall this bronzerider who promised the most interesting education." She laughs, "Niahvth will rise soon, I don't aim on being here when it happens." It is her turn to play dumb at mention of his cabinet stock. "You sure you shouldn't check the girls Bristia keeps throwing out to make sure they aren't running off with your profits?" she smirks. "The bottles I've borrowed are usually returned."

"Now ''he'' sounds like an interesting, handsome, engaging character. Tell me ''more''," R'hin says with a twitch of lips. "Mm. Probably for the best," her ''leaving'' before the Igen queen rises, thoughts perhaps lingering on that as he settles into a good, fast pace. "''Girls''," he echoes, playing at insulted. "''Women'', and mostly she's been throwing herself out, and she isn't ''nearly'' the drinker I am."

Edyis laughs, "Her word not mine. You can hardly help it if they seem to line up to throw themselves at you. I didn't expect Farideh though." The scribe admits, "Leiventh will chase?"

"Farideh?" he echoes, blankly, his stride breaking for a moment before he laughs, abruptly. "Oh, no. She was... unsettled, after we witnessed the abdication of Joremy in Igen. I gave her plenty to drink and left her to it. I was at Igen all night." R'hin gives her a look at the latter question, but then after a beat, "Of course." Like it should be obvious.

Edyis doesn't look like she buys it, but then again maybe she she does since she doesn't bring it up again. Matching his pace. "Be careful, I get the feeling that this one will have quite a few chasing." She glances at him from the corner of her eye for the briefest instant with the words. Finally, she manages to say, "Cron was sighted in the south." Passing the news off casually.

"Every junior flight does," R'hin waves off her concern. "And ''careful'' doesn't often go hand in hand with ''flights''." At least not with ''him'' involved. There's a grunt at her mention of her brother. "Good for him," being ''south'' and not ''here'', presumably.

"Would serve you right if I came back to find your jaw wired shut." She pants, "Though if you are still in one piece I ''may'' share the name of my rum supplier." It probably isn't what she meant to say, but whatever else is on her mind, isn't coming out this run.

"And ''I'' just might continue ignoring the missing drinks from my cabinet if you give me that name, regardless of my state, or lack thereof," R'hin's countering, with a darted look as they start another lap.

"If you were that upset about it you'd have already changed your locks." She counters, with an easy smile. "Or simply told me to stop." She seems to consider his offer though, tilting her head. "Introductions with the Beowin traders, and you have a deal."

If she notices the narrowing of his eyes, it doesn't register in her features, breathing hard. "Does it matter why?"

"Of course." This ''is'' R'hin, after all, and he's apparently still waiting on an answer. That, or he's getting out of breath.

"Why do I ever want anything R'hin?" She finds the words between breaths, "To learn. I want to know how someone can read both people and objects and extract their histories, rather than relying on my own flawed perceptions. To see the world through a different set of eyes. I want to learn how to sell the item and the story behind it. When and how to trade a thing, and how to understand the value of what you have."

It takes him some time; at least half a lap of their trip around the lake to respond. "Ok," is all he says. Maybe he is getting old and out of breath, or maybe her answer is ''satisfactory'' enough for R'hin to agree to it.

It isn't until he says ok, that she studies him from the corner of her eye. If she is surprised by his consent, it doesn't show in her cold reddened features. "Ok." She echoes after several paces, her agreement to the bargain. It takes several more before she manages to say,"After Niahvth rises." Dark brown eyes fixing back on the track, as she falls into silence.
