Azaylia didn't like the idea of ''deceiving'' the tithe train. In fact, if she'd had more of a warning, she would have tried to convince Boreal that there was another way.

It was probably the reason Tsanth bespoke Hraedhyth ''after'' the wing had left.

As far as she was concerned, there was no choice. So there she was, waiting for them by the time the tithe was returned with as many caverns workers as she could convince to help.

There were some who refused to take part. There always were. Azaylia didn't press, and didn't have to for those who were more worried about a harsh winter for their families than disobeying the Acting Weyrwoman.

One third or not, the tithe was brought into the belly of the Weyr, sorted, and added to the storerooms. It didn't take them long, and while that worked in their favor, it was a testament to just how little they had received from High Reaches Hold.

Azaylia stayed until the last of it was tucked away. The gnawing, vicious guilt made it difficult to speak. She managed. Her hands shook as she signed the appropriate documents, stylus unsteady in her fingers. She managed.

The first meeting without Taikrin had seemed... odd.

By the third, however, Azaylia had to wonder if there wasn't any truth to those rumors circulating throughout the Weyr. That, there was trouble brewing between the Acting Leadership.

Hraedhyth felt when Iesaryth had pulled her support from Szadath, as did many perceptive dragons of the Weyr. Without either gold, the brown and his rider no longer had ''any'' force behind their command. The results weren't catastrophic, but neither were they very pretty.

All Azaylia had to do was watch.

Azaylia left the Weyrwoman's knot hanging where it was.

If there was any doubt in her mind as to what it meant, the influx of inquiries and duties that day soon made things perfectly clear.

To Hraedhyth, nothing had changed. The balance between thundering drums and calm ocean remained unchallenged.

Days after, a fresh knot and the responsibilities that came with it weighed heavily upon Azaylia's shoulder. It could be said that such a shift was on par with the unease that had become typical of High Reaches Weyr's leadership.
