<strike>Love</strike> Lust is a battlefield. K'zin could ''imagine'' the body parts that could be strewn across Irianke's weyr, this particular battlefield where the foe had greeted them mostly naked, the most daunting of armors for the fairer sex (since everyone knows the less you wear, the more protection you have), but as he stumbled away from this particular fight, there was nothing to trip over except his own two feet.

He wondered if the lusty haze so thick it made him dizzy was so keen a thing because Niahvth was claiming the Weyr in this aerobatic sexual act or because the flight so short it left Rasavyth reeling and not ''quite'' believing the way Cadejoth had turned up from-- where? Where had they even been with Niahvth ''exibiting'' her readiness as she had? Had Rasavyth reached for Cadejoth when she began to blood? He doubted it. K'zin would have liked him to, because... if K'del wasn't Weyrleader when all was said and done, then who? He didn't fancy the choices he'd seen in the Weyr.

It was only then that it occurred to him that he hadn't ''seen'' K'del in the Weyr. He looked back only to find himself already half way across the bowl toward Snowasis, toward the comfort of a bottle and flesh that will purge his mind of conscious thought and the awareness of Rasavyth's ''regret''.

K'zin didn't regret the loss; he never ''would'' regret a loss where golds are concerned, after the last time and all the piss poor decisions tied up in the wild ride it was. He didn't want the weyrleadership, and there was a time-- a glorious, ''blissful'' time when Rasavyth briefly didn't either, but now? Forever, Rasavyth would ''want'' it.

Rasavyth's disappointment that K'zin was not willing to be more the pawn in his games might last the rest of their days if K'zin had anything to say about it. He didn't ''need'' to throw Rasavyth off, intentionally, the injury to the wings still gave him trouble in longer flights, though it didn't seem to trouble him in the shorter flights of greenkind. But he would've tried, if it had gotten close.

As was, he was grateful for surviving the battlefield with no greater honors than he went in with. He found a drink on the first passing tray on the patio (and there were aplenty), and the welcoming arms that found him before he got a second drink. Familiar arms, arms he was glad found him because he would've found ''someone's'' arms if he couldn't find hers.

He buried his face against Telavi's shoulder and clung to her for a moment before whisking her off to the nearest private twist of tunnel not already occupied by other losers.

At least ''this'' loser felt like a winner today.
