| log = He came looking for her. Checked the chore chart and sought her out. When G'laer finds her, his hands are in his pockets (strange!), there's a lazy smile on his face (stranger!), and he's humming an absurdly cheerful tune (strangest!). "''Jadzia''," he enthuses when he sees her, smile becoming toothy grin. "Just the woman I wanted to see." Can he remember why? No, it seems not. But he asks in place of whatever it was, "How's candidacy?"

Jadzia will be found in the kitchen, cutting up vegetables for the evening's meal. It's painfully domestic and the former Cromese almost-guard doesn't look particularly thrilled to be doing the work. She looks even less thrilled when ''G'laer'' shows up, acting so strange. And even less thrilled when he addresses her directly. "It's fine, sir." Sir that she does not know at all. "Is there something I can help you with?"

The 'sir' makes G'laer look bemused. "Can I steal you for a minute?" He must have remembered what he came about, because he pulls open his riding jacket so she can see a familiar rolled paper tucked there. "It's about this, and I don't suppose here is the right place to talk about na--" He does manage to cut himself off, looking a little like he was interrupted and then just quirks a brow at Jadzia, "Can I?" Steal her. He's back to that.

She glances at the paper tucked into his jacket, still not thrilled, still cutting vegetables. Possibly considering the fact that she's holding a knife and he isn't. But after the last question, she stops and glances toward the nearest actual kitchen staffer in silent question before Jadzia is offering G'laer the answer he's looking for. "Fine," is said as she sets down the knife and moves to walk past him to find somewhere else to talk.

"Goodie, goodie," comes the greenrider's excited response. Yep, he said that. G'laer is reaching for her hand to try to pull her along into the stores and down a ways until they find some private nook between shelves where they can speak without too much fear of listening ears. "I wanted to know if you wanted it back. In case there's someone else you wanted to give it to or in case you don't want me to have it anymore." Since clearly he's not gotten rid of it while it's been in his possession.

Nope. Her hand. Jadzia jerks it away from him, but she still follows. "What is ''wrong'' with you?" Not in general, clearly. Like right now. It's kind of freaking her out. As for the picture? "Do ''you'' want to keep it?" This is the more important question, really.

"What?" Something wrong with him? Then like he'd quite forgotten, "Oh, Teisyth's proddy. We've been grounded until after the flight. I'm told it makes me pleasant," as if he's not always. "Well of course ''I'' want to keep it. I'm a man and you're a very sexy woman." It's a no brainer, which is good since he might be hard pressed to find any brain just now. "It's just that after how things went, I thought you'd rather have it back."

The admission of proddiness makes Jadzia's gaze flicker down and then back up over G'laer like she suddenly trusts him even less than usual. Especially when he's calling her things like ''sexy''. "You keep it. Sir. May it be a constant reminder of what you ''could'' have had and now never will." Which is, apparently, the end of the conversation as far as she's concerned. Jadzia turns, intending on finding her own way back to the kitchen.

It might be, except Proddy G'laer is Proddy and his look has turned mischievous. When he calls after her, it's in a very-near-sing-song way, "Aaaren't you concerned I'll post it up in the candidate barracks?" His dimple is showing.

Jadzia doesn't make it far before she's turning back, advancing on the greenrider and moving to shove him against the nearest shelf in a way that betrays the training she once received. She's not as rusty as one might expect after so many turns away from it, either, but she still has little on G'laer in the way of height and weight, let alone experience. "I'm not ashamed of ''that'', Gal. I'm only ashamed that I ever thought I had feelings for ''you''." And now she's trying to get into his jacket to pull out that piece of paper. Naked Jadzia privileges revoked!

Fortunately for Jadzia, G'laer doesn't seem to mind, grinning at her as he is while she shoves him up against the nearest shelf. "Aaare you ashamed that I was in love with you?" He wants to know as he wiggles away, unprofessionally, but effective, once she's reaching for the rolled paper. He's going to make her work for it, apparently. "Really, I can't think now why I didn't just take you to my bed." Well, he can't think of it now that he's proddy and ''silly''.

She doesn't try to chase after him when he slips away. Jadzia is too busy trying not to look struck, hurt even, by his sing-songy words. "Why should ''I'' be ashamed for ''that''?" she demands, a hint of anger becoming more clear in her voice. "Fuck you. This was ''not'' part of the deal."

"I dunno. You didn't want to talk about it before." Is he oblivious to her anger? He's moving back toward her now. "I really did, you know. That's why I couldn't watch you fail. And really, I hadn't even gotten over you until…" G'laer trails off thoughtfully. "I dunno. Maybe I'm not yet, really."

Jadzia steps back from his approach and she looks a little like she's debating hitting him. Or running from him. But she doesn't do either. "I don't want to talk about it ''now''. Why are you doing this? And why do you think I want to ''hear'' any of it? Or is this your idea of some cruel joke? It's pretty fucked up even for you, Gal." She's not crying. She's not going to do that in front of him again if she can help it. But her voice wavers, strained with emotions that she'd resigned herself to not dealing with.

G'laer looks surprised by what she says, his brow furrowing a moment later in visible concern. There's no sign of the usual G'laer so inaccessible and bland. "I'm sorry," he sounds it. "It's hard to think when she's--" He pauses, "It's like she takes all her fluff and nonsense and stuffs it into me and retreats into herself." He sighs. "I didn't mean to hurt you. Now. Or ever, really." He's moving toward her, reaching like he wants to take her hand, but stopping short. "Is there anything I can do to make it up to you, Jadz?" He still looks like he means it. The opposite hand reaches into his jacket and pulls out the paper offering it over, palm completely open in a way that suggests he's not going to try to snatch it away at the last moment.

Jadzia steps back again when he moves toward her, shying away from any reaching before he stops short. She really doesn't want contact, evidently. "I don't know," she admits, sounding unhappy about it. "I thought I was over you. Over ''this''. And then you came back with that sharding picture. I figured you'd thrown it out. Or burned it. I never thought you'd ''keep'' it." It's a little accusatory. "I don't know why I thought this would be a good idea," is added as she reaches to take the paper away from him, tentative like he might jerk it away or try to grab at her.

He doesn't. It's there for her to take. G'laer is looking at her sadly. "I'm sorry," again he sounds like he means it. "I'll keep my distance from now on, if you'd like." Already he's stepping back away from her as long as the paper is in her hands. "Or try, anyway. I don't always remember what happens before a flight so well, so you might have to remind me."

The paper is taken and Jadzia crosses his arms defensively over her chest. When she speaks, her voice is cool, "You've never been ''anything'' but distant, Gal. It shouldn't be that hard for you." Then she's moving, again, to walk off like she'd tried so few moments before.

He looks after her, biting his lower lip but doesn't prevent her exit this time. Though after a moment, G'laer does call to her back, "Making love wouldn't help, would it?" ''Just in case''.

"Go fuck yourself!" comes Jadzia's response without her steps pausing along the way. That's probably a no.

No, he thought not. But that doesn't mean G'laer doesn't sigh anyway. "Alright." He turns to head in the opposite direction but finds reason to pause some shelves down. An ''idea''. Surely Jadzia will gladly accept the 'anonymous' gifts of new weaponry that appear under her pillow in the barracks for the next two days, right? And ''certainly'', she wouldn't think of using any of them on ''him''…
