|log=Summer has faded to autumn, and the colors of nature with it. Rukbat has begun its decline by the time the guards happen upon the thieves and their caravan, bustling through the low lying hills of Nabol, under the disguise of traders. It's during the ensuing argument and immediate skirmish that someone manages to send out a message - via firelizard - to the Weyr, and to call upon a group of nearby riders to help handle the situation.

By the time they get to the pass, there's a full blown fight: wagons overturned, people yelling for help, and many flailing limbs. It ''appears'' as though the guards have the upper hand, with one thief pinned and bound off to the side, but his companions aren't giving up the goods that easily. Fists hitting flesh resound through the air, along with whinnies of runners and shouts of the guards. One of the thieves, a bulky blonde fellow, has trapped a wounded guard up against the hulk of one of the broken wagons, wheels askew, and keeps advancing with a wicked gleam in his eye.

About then, the cavalry arrives, a hodgepodge contingent of riders of the Reaches, ready to fill in where necessary to subdue the rogues.

Using his own formidable bellow to try and demoralize the thieves, a landing Ilicaeth quickly disgorges his rider not far from the fray, Alida running at near-full tilt towards the knot of combatants as her keen eyes professionally assess the situation, while her orange-eyed blue moves to use his bulky, big body and spread wings to try an cut off the most easy means of escape those thieves might have. Seeing a fellow Guard in potential need, Alida draws her knife in one hand, readied for anything as she closes the distance between them quickly.

The incoming dragons cause the thieves, and guards who don't want to be underfoot, to scatter in all directions; there's more screaming, running, and panicking. Runners and burden beasts try to escape from their moorings, to get as far away as they can; while some succeeded, most don't. But Kaisren is too busy flexing his fingers and grinning an evil grin at his would-be victim to notice the dragonriders. "Wh-what!" the guard stutters, his eyes widening as he sees Alida rushing in with a knife in hand. ''That'' is enough to gain the thief's attention, to have him twisting around, one eyebrow lifted, to take in the new ''threat''. He's laughing by then. "They send a ''girl''?" He thinks that's funny.

She's gotten that kind of reaction enough times before for it to not anger Alida too much. Still, the 'girl' offers a rather cruel little smirk-snarl to her would-be opponent's laughter, even as she's taking a swiping-slash at his midsection with her large knife... which turns out to be a feint. While right hand feints with knife, the bluerider's left, booted foot snakes around the thief's, hooking behind it to try and surprise-jerk his legs out from under him. About 50 feet above the fracas - still near her mistress - little gold Pyrite circles warily, her own orange eyes keeping an lookout on Alida and the whole orgy of violence.

A man of such size shouldn't be nearly as swift as he, nor as deft at jumping away from a knife feint, but the leg to trip him up does little, except to cause him to move forward a step and grunt in annoyance. "Pretty tricks, for a pretty lady. Now, go on back to your Weyr, and back some fancy pies or whatever you ladies do over there," he says with a toothy grin. He dismisses her that easily, perhaps stupidly, and turns back to assess his prisoner, who is clutching the only thing nearby: a broken piece of wood that came off the upended wagon. "Where were we? Right, I was about to beat your face to a bloody pulp," comes the too-happy chortle.

Well then...no tricks anymore. Now actually ticked-off, Alida allows the thief to turn his back as she silently fumes...and instantly reverses her big knife in hand while lunging up at the back of the big man's head. Unless he has eyes in the back of his head, he won't see it coming...her form colliding with his as the heavy pommel of the bluie's knife connects with his head in just the perfect place to knock him unconscious for a few hours. And...in case his turn is a feint...the fast-fingered bluerider's drawn a second knife in her left hand as she goes for her 'overbear and overcome' move . Being ambidextrous has many advantages.

No, this ''thief'' doesn't have eyes in the back of his head, and it's a winning shot that has him going down on his knees, but not quite out yet. One hand reaches for the back of his head, with one eye closed and the other squinted at the bluerider. "The fuck is this?" Because that's the only response he can come up with, apparently. His captive, meanwhile, makes a run for it.

To her (partially) incapacitated opponent, Alida has only a dark and dangerous - if slightly humored - "Ain't laughin' *now*, mare ya, fuckwit?" before she lands another pommel blow to the sweet spot on the other side of his hard head. It's delivered with consummate skill and professionalism... though with just a bit more force than necessary to drop him fully. Once she's assured the asshole's out and going to *remain* that way for some hours, she's resheathing one knife and moving off into the fray to render aid where needed.

And he does fall - topple really - to the ground from the force of the second blow from the bluerider's knife. It's winding down elsewhere, with riders teaming up to take down what remains of the miscreant crew and calm down the beasts that remain attached to their wagons. Only a few of the thieves continue to resist, but with a new wave of riders arriving shortly thereafter, they all but lie down in defeat. Then, it's up to the guards to assemble their prisoners and, with help from the dragonriders from High Reaches, they corral them back to Nabol Hold.
