K'zin couldn't really ''blame'' T'volt for thinking that's why he'd come by that afternoon; with over a turn of regular meet-ups, it was a well established pattern, helping each other scratch the itch. But it's not ''why'' he'd come on his way back from Fort.

He'd just needed a moment. A moment out of space and time. That's how he thought of Telgar, of T'volt's. Because what happens in Telgar stays in Telgar. They were always discreet when they were in public, easily taken for two friends taking in the runner races in Keroon or Bitra, or getting drinks at a dive, or occasionally taking a runner ride themselves or playing a few hands of dragonpoker. Nothing that marked them as bedmates as well as friends. But in the confines of their weyrs, the stresses of the world faded for K'zin, were made less because somehow in this semblance of secrecy, K'zin was ''safe'' from it all. T'volt's was a haven.

He'd listened, once K'zin had got 'round to explaining. It always took time for him to 'get 'round to it' because he was never sure how much he wanted to tell the other bronzerider, or how much T'volt ''wanted'' to know. It's not that K'zin felt he had to censor himself, but they weren't the kind of friends that sat around braiding each others hair and talking about girls (or boys). There'd been sympathy, too, to the usual extent to which T'volt offered any, and as usual it was in his own brand of humor which only half-sat well with K'zin this time.

He was in deep. His dragon had chased both the Senior and Junior gold in the same Weyr, after being unwelcome the first time. Both times, he hadn't intended to be there. The second time he had the bad luck to ''catch''. He knew he should be elated. If not for himself, for Rasavyth. Instead, he was torn in too many directions. There was K'del to consider, his mentor and ''friend''. Although maybe K'zin shouldn't give him as much consideration as he was since Ali didn't know what was between himself and the older bronzerider. There was his leadership, ''Ali'''s leadership, ''and'' Telavi.

Telavi, whom he'd missed another date with. Telavi, who would be mad at him. Telavi, who… who, he already knew, would pretend everything was okay. Because that's what she did. Because she didn't want to rock their boat, ''their boat'' which had ''just'' patched up most of the holes and found a course that ''didn't'' lead them into yet another storm. (Hello Golden Squall Named Isyath!)

He had sweeps that night. He left T'volt's in plenty of time to stop home and pick up one his old flight jackets and get in a quick bath, but sweeps over ''cold'', and ''boring'' Tillek gave him too much time to think. He could've warned Tela he'd be by, but he didn't want to give her time to set up a trap. The traps he imagined were ridiculous, but with too much time to think as the landscape slid by beneath them, he thought of them all. He'd decided, by the time they landed on Solith's ledge late that the most likely was to end up hanging by his ankles from the scarves adorning the stairs to the balcony over Solith's couch. What Tela would do with him from there, K'zin didn't know, but they didn't want to find out. So here they were, unheralded, but ''here''.
