| log = It wasn't that the healer examination was as bad as the actual conception had been, but it was awkward, nonetheless: explaining, being a patient and not a healer, the horde of butterflies trying to beat their way free from her stomach. She couldn't relax, and so it hurt, and it was embarrassing and uncomfortable and part of her thought she would have been better off just waiting. Holder women never had phyiscal examinations, after all!

But then it was over, and the healers just beamed at her, and maybe Delifa looked torn between concern and delight, but it was still delight, wasn't it? Yes. Yes, yes, yes.

The butterflies didn't stop pounding, not as she dressed to leave the infirmary, and not after she left, either. Yes. Yes, yes, yes. There was no question, now: they'd done it. It was done. Sometime in early month three, probably, they were going to be parents.

She left the infirmary in a daze, barely noticing where she was going. Where was she going? She ended up outside, the warmth of the summer morning only brightening her mood. One of the big boulders out by the lack was unoccupied, and so she settled herself there, arms wrapped snug around her middle.

There were children playing in the lake, using one of the dragons as a diving board and a climbing sculpture. She watched them, and for the first time in-- how long? Forever, almost-- she felt no sense of longing. Her children would be out there, one day. Her son or daughter, growing up in this place like he or she was born to it. Because it would be, this child. This would be home.

And she liked that thought. It felt... right.

Soon, she'd have to go and find B'tal, probably enlist one of the dragonhealers again to help her. And then there were other people to tell, like Milani. She'd promised, after all. As soon as she had something to tell.

She had something to tell, now. Something wonderful.

But for a few moments, just a few moments more, it was her news, and hers alone. True, the healers knew, but that had been unavoidable. Necessary. She hugged her middle, thinking happy thoughts to the life tiny and fragile within. ''I'll take good care of you'', she promised. ''I'll look after you forever.''
