N'ky sat with the piece of hide stretched out in front of him on the table on the patio, tapping at a corner with his pencil.

I'm still mad at you.

That was a start! Not the best one, but, well, a start was a start, no matter how good the words scribbled down were.

But it's your turnday and I couldn't get you nothing.

He ran his fingers over the fabric-wrapped parcel beside him. Hidden within the folds of the soft crimson cloth was a new sketchbook, with some charcoal sketching sticks.

Sighing, the greenrider leaned back in his chair, looking over to where Cailluneth was soaking up the sun nearby.

N'ky and Cailluneth.

There. That would do it, right? Only, there was that little niggling bit of guilt in the back of his mind...

PS, I'm sorry I punched you, but you deserved it.

Then he rolled the hide up and tucked it under the string wrapped around K'zin's turnday gift.

Luckily, there was no sign of the bronzerider or his lifemate when N'ky got to the barracks. He slipped into their couch, dropped the parcel onto K'zin's cot, then jogged back out before he could get caught, straight to Cailluneth's side.
