Description
A slim woman rapidly approaching the wrong side of forty, Aleis is still holding her own against age but there are increasing signs that the battle's doomed to be lost--the hints of crows feet around the eyes, hint of lines starting around her mouth. Her dark hair--mostly straight, it hits somewhere between her ears and her shoulders depending on how recently she's managed a haircut--has gotten a few strands of gray in it, but not that one would notice from a distance. Fair, slightly freckled, a strong chin and a slightly hooked nose, she's not apt to win prizes for her beauty but there are worse folks to look at. She stands a little on the tall side for a woman but not overmuch, slim, leggy, but there's solid muscle there.

History
Aleis was a southerner by birth, from a relatively small hold outside Southern proper. Tall for her age at the time, she left home at thirteen telling the traders she left with that she was sixteen. At nineteen, she finally elected to 'settle down' at Southern Weyr, only to get Searched--not by Southern, but Benden.
There, after a contentious Candidacy she Impressed brown Galbreth, hooked up with a very sweet greenrider named Virine, mellowed slightly, and though the two never shared living space, they were otherwise inseparable.
Aleis was eventually asked to serve as an assistant weyrlingmaster, and remained in that position for quite some time, never pushing for a promotion. The Comet Pass brought dark times, but they survived.
In the next-to-last Fall, Virine's green was struck. They went *between* and never emerged. Distracted, Galbreth was likewise threadscored, but made it back to the Weyr. Badly injured, he was at least still alive, and he would heal in time.
His recuperation was slow. Little was expected of either of them. Virine's children were put into fostering. Aleis was put on a leave of absence, then eventually replaced. Galbreth got, slowly, better. Aleis got a regular appointment with a mindhealer. They were put into a wing of the semi-retired. Light duty. Don't stress the poor fragile victim.
But by the fall of turn 21, the mindhealer has decided that they *were* better, and suggested a change of scenery might be needed. A transfer was suggested and then arranged. Aleis moved to High Reaches just at the start of winter in turn 21.
