Dear Issedi

I've been travelling for a bit. I'm really enjoying life outside of the Weyr, and I think it's more suitable to the nature of my people. I remain envious of the way Holders and live and hope to, one day, find land for all the islanders to settle down on.

I am travelling with a friend, and we have adopted one of the local inhabitants. She is a bit of a handful and even though she's not even up to my waist she can be very scrappy! My friend isn't really much for talking, either. I do miss my people though, so they are the closest thing to family I have.

Since leaving I've come in to some disturbing evidence that supports my suspicion that the High Reaches Weyrleaders have known the truth -- that the exiles are descended of High Reaches and River Bend lineages -- yet covered it up. That said, I believe that your father was unaware of this, and I believe as well that he is doing what he believes best for the Hold and his family.

I hope you will write back soon and regale me with tales of your daily life. It's all very new and exciting to me still!

Best wishes Devaki
