Description

One of those teens that just always seems to be in disheveled disarray, Tolman's mop of ash-brown hair is shaggy and falls in every direction at once. The locks curl over the tops of long ears that pair well with his equally long nose and forehead. His relatively pale complexion is interrupted by rosy cheeks that still hold traces of baby fat. Brows are on the bushy side and long lashes make his hazel eyes look a little soft. His usual pink-lipped smile reveals large front teeth that some how always leave him looking a touch on the goofy side. He's neither slender nor rotund, of average build and musculature, tall for his age and still growing.

His clothing is typical of a tanner apprentice. Patched work pants in muted earth tones and often stained tunics of the same ilk. His boots and belt are worn from turns of use, and were one to look at the tread pattern, it would seem that these items are hand-me-downs from the Weyr's stores, as most everything else must also be.

History

From unremarkable roots, Tolman was born to laundress Tollana and stablehand Mattan at Fort Hold. An only child, he was doted upon by his parents and had a relatively happy childhood. Not that Tollana and Mattan were particularly unhappy as members of the Hold, but Tollana had, in her youth, wanted to apprentice to the TannerCraft like her brother had, but it couldn't be arranged. As sometimes happens with children, she wanted to give her son the opportunity to live out her dream. The Headwoman was able to arrange for Tolman to apprentice and he left Fort Hold at 12 to head to the Hall.

After about two turns, his mother had spoken with his uncle (the, by then, journeyman) and he arranged to have Tolman posted to the Weyr to be under his direct supervision. Being related to your boss has advantages and disadvantages. The disadvantages included that both Tollana and her brother, Journeyman Ollander, want Tolman's sole focus to be on learning his craft. That's why Tolman decided to approach K'zin when he was working on the backdrops for Mave's play. He has friends enough, but none that drew or did art. So, why not?

Relationships

K'zin: I look up to him. We draw together. He's kind of like a big brother. It's cool.
