| It's seemingly out of nowhere when, in the middle of month five, the wings are sudden given additional duties: they're to help the Nabolese plant their fields. In some cases, this means quite a bit more than that - some of those fields were burnt last turn, for example, and some of the holders are missing outbuildings. Still, the orders are clear: get them back on their feet. No, not everyone is happy with this. Dragonriders aren't farmers! Given the rather lean couple of turns the Weyr has faced, one of the most obvious questions is where the seed for this is coming from; the Nabolese don't seem to have any, otherwise they'd have been planting their own, already. The answer? That doesn't take long to come out, either: it's a gift from the Lady Ienavi. Where she got it from is yet another question, but there's no doubt that the timing is good... and not just because the planting really does need to happen now, if there's to be a crop come autumn. No, it's also good timing because rumors are spreading. After all... it's convenient for Ienavi that Rone is dead, isn't it? And aren't people now beginning to claim that it was poison that took him down? And didn't they also claim that Ustelan also died of poison? And - shells, if you're going to think down those lines... wasn't Ienavi supposed to marry Rone himself, before Ustelan's then-life died so very suddenly, so soon after the young Ienavi arrived at Nabol? |
