The letter arrives on not the first day after Peirith's flight, but the second, as though the writer has understood that time and space might be important. It's written in a fine hand, delivered amongst the other mail, short.

Weyrwoman,

I wish to humbly apologise for my intrusion into your flight. I cannot begin to describe how disappointed I am with my conduct, and I take full responsibility for it. I had believed that my dragon would not be affected, that his youth would render him immune, as it were; he had never chased before, so I did not understand. Further, I wished to understand what a queen flight was like. I am Holdbred, I had never seen one before, but that is no excuse for failing to listen to the warnings of others, and having so little understanding, personally, of the foolishness of my assumptions.

In truth, I can offer no excuses, and can only, humbly, ask for your forgiveness.
