Zmeyth knew something was 'wrong'.

V'ros knew too, but he didn't want to admit things had changed.

He agreed to see the healers, on the condition that Zmeyth didn't blow this out of proportion.

Everything was fine. Nothing was wrong.

"I don't know how this happened." Miska was seated on a stool not far from the examination table, frowning down at the chart he held in his hands. He hesitated to meet his green eyes with the weyrling's brown ones.

"What? What.. is it?" V'ros was anxious, tensing his whole body for the blow he knew would come.

It would be leprosy or some fatal illness. He was so 'young', how could this happen to him?

"Well, V'ros, it doesn't happen every day, but we have been seeing a strange influx lately.."

"Yes?" the weyrling gritted out. His face conveyed irritation.

"Congratulations, V'ros, you're pregnant."

PREGNANT.

Inconceivable. He had been so careful. 'They' had been so careful.

How was he going to tell H'vier the news? Shit, how was he going to explain this to Quinlys?

Miska got up and left the room, letting V'ros take in the startling news.

He pressed a shaking hand to his abdomen.

His baby. 'Their' baby.. Valier. Or was it Havros?
