| You walk along the path leading to the nearby area. Hot Spring, High Reaches Weyr(#420RIJs) Tucked away against the unrelenting rock of one of the mountains of the High Reaches range is a large hot spring surrounded by trees. The pool resulting from the spring is several dragonslengths accross providing space for perhaps a half-dozen people and their lifemates. Apparently accessible only from the air, a nearby clearing is large enough for a small number of dragons to land. Some distance below the spring, at the abrupt end of a steep trail is another, larger clearing. Heated by a natural geothermal vent, the lightly bubbling spring maintains a comfortably hot temperature all Turn, even when there is snow almost up to the edge of the hot pool. Contents: Madison M'wen Obvious exits: Clearing Your location's current time: 19:36 on day 31, month 1, Turn 13, of the Interval. It is a winter evening. M'wen is floating in the water a little way from shore, looking non too amused with Madison nearby and Maxeoth slowly swimming circles nearby. If one had to guess M'wen would appear to have just fallen into the water against his will and the laughter directed at him only strengthens this idea. He gives a half smile, "See, now that just wasn't very nice. I said I'd take you here but never said you could pull me in!" Madison ohs a bit as she laughs. "Actually I just grabbed you, your the one that fell in." Madison says as she soaks in the water. "This is so great, I'm glad you brought me here. I'll feel so much better now." The observant might note the passing nearby of a bronze settling into the clearing below, and a short time later, the faint crunching of rocks indicates a new arrival to the hot springs. R'hin's distracted, gaze distant, not really paying attention to his surroundings - moving by rote up the path, a towel slung over one shoulder. He slows and pauses when the sounds of voices reach him, a faint frown as if nonplussed at the prospect of company. His eyes flicker over the occupants - the Weyrsecond with a quirk of lips, as if pleased, and the weyrling with a studied, thoughtful expression. "Making the weyrlings feel at home, M'wen?" comes the Weyrleader's low, amused voice. M'wen leans an arm up on the shore to brush an errant strand of hair sticking to his face out of his eye, "That was the plan at the time, but you know how plans go." The brownrider turns to Madison and concedes, "I guess you're right, but I must say taht was the first time I've been dragged into the hot springs by a weyrling riding a swimming dragon." He gives a crooked smile before turning back to the Weyrleader, "I'd ask what you were doing here, but common sense seems to be controlling my useless questions today. Come on in though, the waters wet." As the young woman's joy seemed to have no bounds, all of a sudden the bright face that she had ben wearing comes to a sudden and immediate halt at the apperance of R'hin. "Weyrleader." Is Madison's flat and rather unemotional response as she slides to the other side of the pool between Maxeoth and M'wen. R'hin's lips quirk, taking a couple of steps closer, but not near the water's edge just yet. "I would be inclined to say there are no useless questions, except for the fact that I have endured many of them in my time as Weyrleader - so I thank you for that, wise man." The title is bestowed with a tone rarely heard in the bronzerider's voice - respect. "Mm. I'm not sure your welcome is shared by your companion there," the man seems to be deliberately dismissive of Madison's presence in response to the cool greeting, eyes fixed on M'wen. "Ahh but I seem to be saying more and more of them these days for the sake of conversation-" M'wen pauses and adds quickly across to the weyrling, "-I don't mean to you." The brownrider heaves himself out of the water, leaving only his legs still below the surface, with clothes dripping, "Well I can't guess why, you've never seemed quite as menacing as people's reactions would suggest, though maybe its out of respect?" Another crooked smile, and a shiver as a small breeze circles by, "Lighten up Madison, he doesn't bite... For at least as long as I've known him." "Ah, I'll try." Madison says, looking towards R'hin. "How are you Weyrleader?" She asks, smiling at him. "Come swim with us?" She asks, sliding back over towards M'wen and splashing him again There might be the faintest hint of a smirk lingering around R'hin's lips, though he conceals it as he casts about for a rock far enough from the springs to remain dry, slinging his towel over it. Brows flicker upwards in visible surprise as Madison's demeanor changes markedly. "If I hadn't seen it myself, I'd doubt the strength of your influence, M'wen. You still surprise me," he says, as if this is indeed a great compliment. "I'd much rather," this is directed to Madison, pale eyes intent, "Have truthful dislike than false platitudes, Madison." The splashes directed at M'wen don't really do anything, considering he was just immersed against his will immediately beforehand, though a glance at R'hin is given at the invitation. "There's much you don't know about me bronzerider, though I'm flattered anyway. Or at least I think I am, can't tell sometimes with you." In a stage whisper with a conspiratorial towards Madison he adds, "Though supposedly he drowns puppies, you don't want to let your guard down." "I'm being serious, Weyrleader. I shouldn't hold it against you that you were wrong. But," Madison grins a bit more as she splashes more at M'wen grinning at him before she looks back to R'hin. "C'mon in, sir." She says, grinning. "I don't dislike you. An apology would be nice, however." A low-throated chuckle bespeaks abrupt amusement, R'hin's pale eyes shining as he regards M'wen. "Indeed, brownrider, indeed." He begins to unbuckle his flight jacket, though pauses at Madison's words. "Was I wrong? You Impressed. Many have Impressed who shouldn't have-- you have not come -near- to being tested yet, weyrling." A smile curves his lips, though pale eyes are cool indeed as he regards the girl. "I do not apologize for things I am not sorry for." M'wen looks from Weyrleader to weyrling, faint apprehension visible upon his features though what looks to be slight grudging respect of Madison's comment is given in her direction. M'wen shakes his head slightly as though shaking loose a thought, "But does it not seem a better course of action to give the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise? You can't know what any of our weyrlings are capable of until their trials and tribulations come." A small shrug is given but no more is added, the conversation watched with foreboding. "He decided that I wasn't worthy when I was first searched." Madison says as she gives a gentle smile to M'wen for his defense of her. "But for now, I'll let it lay. It's not over, but I will not fall apart." She says, beaming at the Weyrleader before she splashes at him. "C'mon in now please." If R'hin takes note of M'wen's apprehension, he doesn't react to it visibly, leaning casually against the rock. "No, I can't, though Madison seems to think it a forgone conclusion that she shall fear nothing, and be a hero to Pern. You and I gave away that particular dream a long time ago. Do you think that a fair call of judgement, wise man?" Surprise flickers across his features at Madison's words, and dark mirth follows in its wake, the Weyrleader caught in a low chuckle for a time. "I did no such thing, weyrling. I challenged you to see the world for what it is. If I thought you weren't worthy, I would not have allowed you to stand." The words have a cold certainty to them, and he does not move closer to the water despite entreaties, or water splashings. "One would be a fool not to have fear." M'wen says, though it seems to no one in particular. "Fear is what will keep you alive as a dragonrider, as long as it doesn't overwhelm you." The Weyrleader's direct question is pondered, no answer given in haste, "I never dreamed of being a hero... I am not a leader. But belief can be the strongest motivation of all, and if one wishes to believe that they will save pern I don't think it right to quash that." The last words get a drop of M'wen's head, eyes not following the faint wavelets lapping against the edge of the pool, no further words spoken. Madison nods and smiles gently towards M'wen. She offers and giggles as she splashes at the dragon in the water. She gives a soft sigh and begins to float again, closing her eyes gently. "I love this place here." The Weyrleader's musing gaze settles on M'wen for quite some time, the man silent. "Saving Pern is one thing. Knowing one's limitations - and that of others - in doing so... that is where the strength of our future lies. We need no needless gambles, not now, most of all." R'hin's words are heavy, intent in contrast to the light carelessness of Madison's words. It seems the man isn't unaware of it, given he collects his towel and slings it over his shoulders. "Dark thoughts plague me tonight-- it seems I'm not in the mood for company." With a respectful tip of head towards M'wen, he turns on a heel. Madison looks over at the Weyrleader and sighs before she looks back to M'wen and sighs at him. "Sorry M'wen. HE's not liked me much at all." she says, giving another small sigh. "Come join me, for reals?" She asks him, giving a bit of a sigh "But why crush someones dreams before they can even be realized upon?" M'wen asks, partially hypothetically. "But no, not now." M'wen watches the Weyrleader collect his towel from the rock before adding, "And your solution to dark thoughts is to wallow in them alone? When the oppurtunity for lightheartedness in a time of slim to none of it is presented you get rid of dark thoughts by avoiding it to be alone?" "I am what I am M'wen-- you know that more than anyone," R'hin's low chuckle is full of faint mirth. He pauses, glancing over his shoulder, a fleeting look at Madison, but it's the Weyrsecond that his eyes settle on. "To work through them. I am a bastion of dark thoughts, after all. Good evening." As before, he ignores the entreaties to join them, turning to pick his way down the hill to the clearing below. |
