| "Y'could stay on as Steward." Weylaughn didn't even look up from the papers he was dealing with. After Mother was taken off to the Mindhealers for evaluation, he was left with the mess of her work and paperwork and everything else. Her diaries were both fascinating and terrible, but they helped to underscore just how unhinged she'd become. He read what he needed and gave them to the Mindhealers. They could make more use of it than he ever would. And then there were the other papers. So many papers. Pulhaun lingered in front of him and he was yanked back into the moment. "I can't and you know it, Pulhaun." The piggish man grunted once. "Aye. But I'll ask of ye t'do a couple small favors before y'go." "As you like." Weylaughn dug up a clean sheet of paper and readied his pen. "See to sendin' Yuhana to Harper." "Noted." "Paulan'll stay here. I figure yer mother had someone or somethin' set up for Lauweina." "I saw the list," Weylaughn replied. "I'll make sure to send her off appropriately." There were few smaller Holdings in need of a bride-to-be - and while Lauweina was a little on the young side, it wasn't wholly unheard of. "I can't be takin' on the others. Not now." "It's okay. I imagine Ulahaun and Heywani would enjoy the Weyr, at least for a time." And Lauweina, too, until she could be properly paired off. More notes were laid down. Pulhaun turned and started toward the door. "Is that all, then? Leave Paulan here and send the rest off?" "No," the man said after a moment. "See if'n the Miners'll come out and assess the lands." Weylaughn stared. "What? Did I not say it clear enough for ya?" "No, I- you just seemed so adamant about not having them out here before, I just..." Pulhaun started to laugh. The laughter turned into a howl of amusement before devolving into a series of harsh, barking coughs. "I ain't the smartest man," the Holder said, "but I ain't the stupidest, either. Already spoke to a Harper about the divorce - that way she can't get her claws on anythin' they find in the dirt 'round here." Weylaughn was stunned into red-cheeked silence. Of course, he should have known. Of course. "Paulan'll take up after me. Reckon he'll match well with some girl or another. He'll handle the Echoes well, aye." "Aye, he will." Pulhaun left - and Weylaughn worked. |

I'm impressed with how quickly Weylaughn 'recovered'. Still, putting your head down and working is one way to cope, but I imagine it only works for so long... Let's hope there's no emotional aftermath. (Or, let's secretly hope because MOAR VIGS!)

If he's busy, he's fine. But idle hands and ready access to wine... well. xD
