Timeline/I10.36.10.15
RL Date: 13 January, 2015
Who: Kiesum
Involves: Baker Hall, Vintner Hall, Farmer Hall
Type: Update
What: A wheat shortage leads to consequences across many crafts and life in general.
Where: Farmer Hall
When: Day 15, Month 10, Turn 36 (Interval 10)

It's taken the summer and then some more counting, but by the end of the 10th month, out of nowhere the Farmcraft has announced a global wheat shortage. The cooler than normal summer has led to some wide variety of farming issues Pern-wide, but wheat seems to be the crop of most concern to the Farmcraft. What this means is staples like bread, noodles, and other carb deliciousness may be available, but in less abundance.

The Bakercraft was quick to issue a statement that posted crafters will be recalled on a rotation basis to the two 'craft centers' at Keroon Hold and Bitra Hold, to retrain in wheat/flour replacements and how to cook and bake with those shortages. Many posted bakers will reassure those who know, or even care/understand what wheat means for them, that business will go on as usual.

It's a few days after the Farmcraft announces minor, but still of concern, Pern-wide wheat shortages that the Vintnercraft issues an edict that limits the brewing of certain wheat-based ales and beers. Beercrafting, much like cooking and baking, is a skill that people utilize irrelevant to craft expertise, and while the announcement is unenforceable by the craft for those amateur brewers, certain areas might see a rise in self-policing by Stewards, Headwoman and the like.

Some say the warnings are unwarranted and overly cautionary, and that there is plenty of beer (and wheat product) on Pern left. Others wonder if it's a sign of an, thus far, over indulgent Interval, and that people are already forgetting Passes to come.
